Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is the perfect way to keep the Call of Duty franchise fresh. This series can't just stick with modern warfare and past wars every single year. Moving to the far future allows for the introduction of new mechanics, equipment, and especially environments that couldn't be done in other time periods. Not only do series followers get something new here, but science fiction fans who've never touched a Call of Duty will find much to like as well.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is a definitive evolution for the franchise, an evolution we desperately needed.

As a whole Infinite Warfare is not perfect game, but that doesn't make it a bad game as all three gameplay elements (story, multiplayer, cooperative) combine to make a solid game that fans, and even non-fans, can enjoy and one that shouldn’t be overlooked this year.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is not the abomination haters would want it to be but it is clear that the franchise is going through an identity crisis. Under its bizarre sci-fi concept, the campaign still has some of the core elements you would expect from the single player mode, but the overly convoluted structure of the multiplayer, chaotic rhythm, the flashy presentation of Zombies in Spaceland and a few technical hiccups will make you hesitate when calling this a Call of Duty game.

A mechanically sound shooter that's hampered by a lack of scale and inventiveness. [Jan 2017, p.88]

With an enjoyable campaign and zombies mode, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is still a worthwhile purchase, although your mileage may vary when it comes to the game's competitive multiplayer. The campaign in particular is well-acted with moments of levity and gravity. However, while these are still good games to play, the now ordinary gameplay may feel a bit stale, particularly for those who have kept up with the series' annual releases for the past decade. After a particularly good year for the first person shooter, Call Of Duty is not a particular stand-out, a far cry from the series must-buy status at its height.

Infinite Warfare could have been much more than a passable single-player movie attached to a super fast, super confident multiplayer infrastructure. As such, and with those moments of tantalising potential in mind, it feels like a wasted opportunity.

The Singleplayer Campaign is probably the best in the series since Modern Warfare and I actually enjoyed the story as the cast is amazing, and the space battles are done very well. Multiplayer is standard honestly and not much has changed since black ops 3 which it's crap honestly since there was amazing ideas in the campaign they just discarded for the specialist style of gameplay, there's no changes to the UI (HUD) too.
Zombies looks amazing and unfortunately I haven't played it much though but will spend a lot of time into it.

Everyone should jump off the hate bandwagon and try it out before hating on it its sad how the main level based achievements were classified as rare ones since they are usually common ones and it does not deserve the hate its been getting

Same thing with the dislikes, it became sort of a trend to dislike the trailer so that's why people do it. There's scientists who says if something is trending or people expect something they will believe it but I don't want to go too deep into science about a video game. I'm not trying to be a sucker for this because I've never played this but I wanted to point out the facts, I prefer a boots on ground original call of duty gameplay style but if you don't like the game or the game trailer just don't buy it idiots Expand

Overall, the missions bring variety of environments and situations.
The shorter side missions allow quick game sessions without having to be available for an half hour.

Multiplayer is... multiplayer: I die every 30 seconds. No surprise here.
Zombie is zombie: I die at wave 9, give or take 2 waves.

I really enjoyed the music and, overall, the main campaign is what I expect from a Call of Duty: action packed game with bruckheimer moments!

I hated the launch trailer and couldn't be more underwhelmed by the final product. Ghosts was bad, and so is this. There's a crap narrative to follow and a handicapped multiplayer compared to last year's Black Ops 3, which was not perfect but at least had some measure of creativity in its gameplay and campaign. Call of Duty has become more about refining the ideas that have already been cast in years past and nothing about forging ahead with new ideas that would freshen up the series. When you've got Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 to play this year, why would anyone waste their money on another Call of Duty game that has done what each of its previous ones have done: rip off each other. The last great CoD games were Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. Since then, this series has done the absolute least to push itself forward. If apathetic attention to detail and a horribly-mediocre effort to be either creative or militaristic-ly precise are what drives you to games, then Infinite Warfare is your jam. But let's be honest, few people actually want to play these games anymore and Activision is steering its ship right into every iceberg at sea. It's only a matter of time before the entire ship sinks, and it will absolutely sink. Expand

Yet, for all of it's space battles and laser guns there isn't much new here outside of some changes to the campaign. The majority of the package is simply Black Ops 3 meets Ghosts.

The campaign is desperately trying to be Mass Effect. You get your own ship with captains quarters and flight deck where you select missions. You even take orders from a character very similar to Captain Anderson. Side-quests even make their return from Black Ops 2. Other changes include zero gravity space battles and an emphasis on air battles with your own customizable ship.

Ultimately these changes don't make much of an impact of the player experience because the whole thing devolves into a Michael Bay style explosion-fest early on. The set-pieces the series is known for is literally just explosion after explosion. Even the ship battles fall prey to this. That's not to say that it doesn't have some memorable moments. A stealthy sniper side-mission in zero G really shows the beauty of space and a rescue mission that has you being swarmed with robots are the standout moments. The problem is that the rest of the campaign just isn't very good. The story doesn't fare well either.

I just wasn't able to get invested in the characters or follow anything that was going on. It's all so uninteresting and the villains are flat. It's hard to view these guys as a real threat as you just steamroll them at every turn. Kit Harrington isn't very believable as the main baddie either. It's not that he gives a bad performance. Quite the opposite. It's just that he isn't really the villain type. Not only is he not menacing enough, but he barely shows up over the course of the story. A big shock considering the whole thing is over in just a few hours. Not even the handful of side-quests do much to extend the length.

The multiplayer is just a mess. It's all but identical to Black Ops 3, they just mixed the crappiness of Ghosts in there with an extra layer of suck. It feels unbalanced and conflicts are usually one-sided. There are issues like spawn camping and it's just too darn chaotic to be any fun. It really is just a broken version of Black Ops 3's multiplayer.

Zombies is the only good mode in this package. That's because Treyarch's core design of Zombies is just inherently good. Personally, I think Infinity Ward should have made a follow up to their Extinction mode from Ghosts. Not only was that mode just as good as Zombies, but it was their original idea for the COD series. It's quite obvious Infinity Ward is just playing it safe with this move.

What I like about Infinity Ward's Zombies mode is that it isn't as hardcore of Treyarch's last few. It's not as complicated and has a cool 80's theme. There isn't as much to dive into and as a result it's a good return to the just plain silly fun of the modes inception. It's still great getting together with friends to find and complete everything. Getting set to an arcade after death to play mini-games in order to resurrect yourself is a nice new addition.

Unfortunately for us and Infinity Ward, one good mode does not a satisfying game make. Considering the campaign and multiplayer hit some of the series lowest points, Infinite Warfare stands out as the worst COD yet. At least in the main series. The outright bad multiplayer is the worst offender, considering it's always been the series biggest strength.
