Captain Cat is a passable game at best. Whilst it’s accessible and does a good job at introducing new level mechanics at a decent rate, the game somewhat neglects its puzzle framework and tends to recycle its ideas far too frequently. Still, for its cheap cost, you’re getting plenty of content in return, it’s just a shame said content isn’t quite as gripping as it could have been, ultimately paving the way for repetition.

Captain Cat brings you a simple puzzle adventure that provides some fun for puzzle genre lovers like myself. The game doesn’t have a hugeCaptain Cat brings you a simple puzzle adventure that provides some fun for puzzle genre lovers like myself. The game doesn’t have a huge story as most games in this genre so this this isn’t surprising. The game will appeal to all players yet it will be too challenging for younger players as they progress, but they will still likely enjoy the game content that they are capable of. As Captain Cat traveling the sea fishing with his anchor to fish for his next seafood meal and avoid the snags if you will in your fishing encounters. The game has a clean and simple layout and I was able to jump right in without any difficulty understanding the mechanics of the game. The play throughout all modes remains the same as you start each level over a maze within water. You arrives on your boat at the top of the maze stopping and starting your anchor at points to redirect it through the maze collecting while avoiding hazards along the way. The controls are simple but effective for the most part in it’s ultimately simple design. There are two main areas to traverse thru earning a score in 3 different categories of your fishing skill. As you progress within any puzzle game things tend to become more challenging. At times the line appears to break from bad hit boxes but nothing I couldn’t overcome. I did run into some frustration at times where I felt cheated by the bad hit detection in more cumbersome levels due to feeling repetitive when I should have been moving on. When you’ve completed the two main areas, you’ll still have much to keep you occupied with more challenges in the perfect and infinite modes. Captain cat could use more refinement and some more consistency but it’s still a good fun game for the price of admission. In regards to the Captain Cat’s presentation the visual and audio Its sharp and colorful and the music never became a bother nor have me humming the tunes it in my head either. If you are a puzzle genre fan like myself and enjoy a value priced good time it’s still a worthy addition to your Xbox One library with its mix of successes and shortcomings. Expand
