Violent, vulgar and crude, Carmageddon: Max Damage is downright offensive and all the better for it. And with a highly entertaining gameplay loop that gives you a great degree of freedom, it’s a blast from the past that occasionally puts a foot wrong but is easily forgiven.

With the right power-ups and speed, Carmageddon can eventually become a beautifully manic game full of offensive humour and gratuitous gore. While this may be the best Carmageddon game, Carmageddon was sadly never that great to begin with.

Although suffering a not-excelling technical framework, the overall result is fairly good, offering engaging and functional gameplay. The guys at Stainless Games brought this new chapter of Carmageddon to life addressing their work toward the brand lovers. That is, we can't recommend the game to everyone but it will surely be appreciated by the franchise fans - ready to dive in this perverted mix of crazy cars - as well as by the outsider old-school game seekers. The newbies may find it quite trivial though: the entertainment is strongly hooked to the 90s concept without any significant change.

Not the best racing game out there, nor the best action game. A remake that tries to relive the good old times for Carmageddon, but doesn't manage to achieve the glory.

Max Damage is a collection of ideas that looked good on paper and sounded good in its Kickstarter pitch, but in practice it would only have been an acceptable sequel if it’d come out in 1999.

Carmageddon: Max Damage has a certain appeal, but if you don't get the game's uniquely sick sense of humour, you're going to hate it.

This series reboot fails to replicate the cleanness of the original games' racing mechanics.

The humour is just as great as the original and is refreshing to see amongst the tripe which is released upon mass at present. All we need now is a decent Duke Nukem games and I'll be a happy clappy chappy. Expand

The graphics won't blow you away but there is fun to be had and the tracks have allot of fun shortcuts and hidden areas.

Recommended for fans of the classic or gamers that like dumb humor and mindless destruction.

I'm not much of a gamer. This was the exception. I bought the splat pack. I installed a 3dfx card. I played relentlessly. As a newlywed at the time my wife resented the game. So nearly 20 years later, its available on xbox. My kids have tons of games, but this is the first I ever bought for myself for xbox. This was over a year ago. I think I've played it a total of 1 hour. I dont know if its the game, or if its just me. It just wasn't the same. Expand

The powerups can be fun and I was amused at throwing anvils from my car at the other racers as well as some of the others but there is a risk/ reward aspect as the powerups are random and you may pick up a power down or a powerup that affects the pedestrians. The unlock tokens allow you to upgrade your vehicle but these unlocks are unlocked as you play through the campaign and vehicles are upgraded separately so you can't transfer upgrades from one to another.

The Graphics are rough and to be honest I have seen better looking original Xbox games from 10 years ago e.g. Black which whilst not a racing game just shows how bad the graphics in this game are.

The A.I.s all seem to act the same and just charge in, there's no difference between the other drivers. It would have been nice to have different drivers attempt to win the race in different ways e.g. some aggressive whilst others go for pedestrians to add variety to the races, for example, during one of my races I witnessed an A.I. driver just constantly driving round in circles oblivious to everything around him and even a few small taps from myself wouldn't knock him out of the loop.
