The mechanics are simple yet engaging, and the merging of tower defence, brawler and castle destruction is the ideal balance of easy-to-play yet difficult-to-master. Simply put, CastleStorm has a lot going for it.

While Zen Studios' ambition may be misplaced in what CastleStorm is, it's a welcome quality in delivering this "complete" version of their original game.

It’s not exceptional enough to demand your time or money above the billion other games vying for your attention, but nowhere near being awful as to want to stomp into paste and fire into the sun, never to darken your door again.

There are plenty of strategicIt's a combination of tower defense and Angry Birds styled physics gameplay with a touch of hack n' slash. There are plenty of strategic options, multiplayer, and it's packed with content. If you are looking to get some bang for your buck you'd be hard pressed to find a bigger offering than this at $15.

With all of the DLC content included in this "Definitive Edition" there's plenty to keep you coming back for countless hours. Two additional campaigns are included, each with their own new toys to experiment with. With the exception of some frustrating survival levels in the DLC, the single-player offerings remain excellent throughout. The amount of content can lead to a feeling that the game is droning on a bit, but it's nothing taking a break to play something else for a while won't fix. The gameplay is so satisfying and addicting you should have no problem being pulled back in.

The story isn't much to speak of. It focuses more on delivering puns than giving us a compelling world or characters to care about. It's amusing at first, but don't be surprised if you find yourself skipping some cutscenes to get to the gameplay.

Multiplayer ramps up the need for strategy considering that you're up against real people. Those looking for some life after finishing up the game's meaty single-player offerings can find it here. It's a nice way to satisfy those competitive urges. There are also some survival modes as well.

While the DLC packs have a few questionable levels, the overall package is still fantastic. Not to mention, rather bursting at the seams with things to do. It's a satisfying combination of genres with some minor flaws in levels design here and there. One that can provide a lot of fun and even more content. It's one of those rare times when the words "definitive edition" actually feel true. This is the way to play the game, as it really does offer everything available for the game, and it all feels worthwhile.

Alone with a couple of pointless story missions the Castle management can become very overwhelming. CastleStorm's strongest point is the online multiplier! Expand
