Imagine if Heavy Rain and Telltale games made love while on a bunch of acid. This is that game is their baby.

It has a unique art style very much in the vein of a graphic novel. It has many of the same interaction types as Heavy Rain and a super trippy and weird story. It is unique and has so much **** crazy stuff happening I don't know where to start.

Fun game, especially now, since it's free. May make you rage a bit though, if you're an achievement hunter, as the action sequences can be a bit confusing at times. Other than that, the story is interesting, and it's definitely a fresh and unique game.

A extremely cheap version of the telltale games the story is confusing and lifeless graphics are ugly And most of the time I had no clue what was going on. 5/10

An interesting game. I was excited for a story that was quirky and had an offbeat sense of humor. Although, it took awhile for the story to heat up and get me interested, by the end of episode 2, I was intrigued where the story would go next. The controls take awhile to get used to. Kinect-wise, they are horrible...there is a slight lag which makes controlling with your hand awkward and unwieldy. Controller-wise is better, but is also awkward and gets some getting used to. I almost quit the game in the beginning because of the unintuitive controls and the uninteresting beginning. But I kept reading good things about the game so I decided to try to finish the game. Overall, the game wasn't that interesting or exciting to me and felt like a chore to play through. When the next episodes come out, I will be watching them instead of playing them. Expand

to be honest, games like monkey island, telltale games (ing general) are really good. i heard about this game around the time of august 2014. i picked it up and then had to go back to get a kinect. the kinect controls were horrible and story fell of just cliches for me. i kept playing and found it goofy (which i like) but the controls are horrible, story is bad, but its just...weird...goodto be honest, games like monkey island, telltale games (ing general) are really good. i heard about this game around the time of august 2014. i picked it up and then had to go back to get a kinect. the kinect controls were horrible and story fell of just cliches for me. i kept playing and found it goofy (which i like) but the controls are horrible, story is bad, but its just...weird...good weird. i would say wait until 2017 or something along the lines of that. this is just my opinion so...hey..like it if you wish. 7/10 Expand

You basically take the concept of Telltale games and remove the portion that make it good (the scenario), and add completely random characters and events that are just out of context in the situation and you get this game. The graphics are not so bad, but the thick black outline around the edges is really not helping it. The fight scenes and animations are great, the dialogues and minigames are just okay and the item collecting is just bad. The resource bars that limit the number of actions you can do is completely useless and just annoying, and the article clipping you collect are completely uninteresting. Expand

D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die is, by far, the weirdest video game that I have ever played. Words cannot express how strange I felt upon completion of it. Honestly, it cannot be said whether it was good or bad, but I can say it was intriguing.

The world of D4 is intriguing - the characters are weird and wonderful, the humour is fun but the most surprising thing about D4 is how well it integrates Kinect controls with the game. It's a lot of fun, especially the action sequences. Very enjoyable experience and hope the following episodes will be just as, if not more entertaining.

I don't know what the reviewers were thinking. This game looks and feels like an early Kinect experiment - and it can be redeemed if you still have a Kinect sensor attached. But if you don't, just run away - flailing joy sticks around in QuickTime events is way less fun than flailing your hands around. The story is beyond the pale: sometimes it's fun because it's SO weird, but when II don't know what the reviewers were thinking. But if you don't, just run away - flailing joy sticks around in QuickTime events is way less fun than flailing your hands around. The story is beyond the pale: sometimes it's fun because it's SO weird, but when I realised that most of the jokes are on women with no agency, rampant homophobia and absurd plot twists, I just regretted the 3 hours I spent on it. The only thing that kept me going is the gazillion of tiny achievements and collectables. But that's also the worst insult of the game: you finish it with less than 200 gamerscore, and then you have to play it again to get more. And of course the more you look at the jokes the worse they become.
If you do have Kinect, it might be worth a look - once you've finished Dance Central, Fantasia, Fru and even the golf games. It's for free in game pass. Just don't take it seriously - thankfully it doesn't take itself seriously either.

Weird and crazy game with WTF story and unique characters. Cell shading need better anti aliasing. Anyway game that calls to be played and explored. Don't expect too much, just different.

It probably would be more intuitive to play an adventure game with a steering wheel and pedals, when compared to the controls that D4 brings to the table. On top of that, the game is crippled with a stupid hunger minigame, that requires you to hunt food, or else you run out of stamina. The story is quite compelling and the wacky characters try their best to keep the game afloat, but the controls and the core mechanics just aren’t up for the task. [Feb 2015]

Minor issues and short playtime aside, D4 is well worth a look, and one of the few times the “better with Kinect” slogan is appropriate.

The story is not the main draw here. [Issue#154, p.124]
