Earth Atlantis innovates by bringing in ideas from the metroidvania genre to its shoot’em up shell, creating an experience that is unlike any other.

Earth Atlantis’ blend of exploration and side-scrolling shooting remains tense, invigorating and well paced throughout the entirety of play. Its unique old-sketch visuals provides a theme that widely sets itself apart from its peers, ultimately producing an adventure that’s as fascinating as it is enticing. There’s a few niggles here and there, but these are easy to forgive in the face of everything that this game gets right.

It’s not that Earth Atlantis was a bad shmup, it was simply kind of dull. The majority of your time will be trying to find your way to the boss located on the map without any indication that you’re going the right way or not. You'll also be restarting from checkpoints because of the later bosses that are quite annoying to fight. If you’re dying for a new shmup to kill a few hours you could do worse, but I’d wait for a sale before entering the depths of Earth Atlantis.

Earth Atlantis takes the world its built and makes us appreciate it for every detail. Despite some gameplay issues, this title does the best it can to provide players with a memorable experience.

If you're looking for a short-term diversion, the game is good enough to fill that role, but not many people will be returning to it just to beat their best time through the game.

If there was ever a bullet-hell shooter that was also a cure for insomnia, Earth Atlantis would be it. Ugly, droning, and tedious to play; it is hard to find anything worse than this on the Xbox Store. While it is a functioning game, it is another example of poor design and miscalculated art direction that undoes any technical know-how the programmers implemented.

I’ve heard quite a lot of good things about Earth Atlantis and some of my friends told me that they really enjoyed the game on the NintendoI’ve heard quite a lot of good things about Earth Atlantis and some of my friends told me that they really enjoyed the game on the Nintendo Switch, so without a doubt I was definitely looking forward to trying this game out on the Xbox One. Thankfully my friends got it right and as far as bullet hell game’s go Earth Atlantis is a pretty decent addition to the genre. With these types of game’s you don’t tend to get much of a story, but Earth Atlantis doesn’t follow this usual formula. In fact the story in this game is not only fresh but it also remains interesting throughout your time with the game, which is great. One thing you will notice with this game is the amount of variety it has. There is literally a lot of variety dotted in all areas from the enemies to the places you visit and this meant that I hardly ever got bored when playing this game. I will say though that the game is best enjoyed when played in short periods because it can get a little repetetive, but on the whole this isn’t a major problem because the gameplay is easy to drift in and out of. Speaking about the gameplay I was very impressed with the simplistic approach they went with. This game is not complicated and you will find that by them doing it this way you can watch and enjoy each different mechanic freely without too much pressure being put onto you. This is a very good thing because the boss fights are challenging to say the least. I will admit that I think some of you will be put off by the challenge the bosses bring to you, but thankfully this wasn’t the case with me. I found each boss battle to be a very exciting affair and once I defeated a boss a got a great sense of achievement, which is awesome. In terms of gripes with the game I only really have one and that is the map system. The map system is very frustrating to say the least because it never seems to help you out and at times it’s hard to know where to go next which can harm the immersion levels a little bit. Thankfully though the immersion levels never dwindle too much thanks to the game’s excellent presentation. Visually the game has a very unique look to it and when you combine both the visuals and sound design together they end up making the adventure even more of an enjoyable experience. At the end of the day Earth Atlantis is a game that I thoroughly enjoyed and that’s mainly because they get the important aspects of the game spot on. It’s a game that is fun and challenging at the same time and if you have any interest in the bullet hell formula then I fully recommend that you give this game a try. Expand
