If you're looking for a new 2D platformer with top-notch level design, Electronic Super Joy won't disappoint. [Issue #19 – January/February 2016, p.23]
Electronic Super Joy is a great game.
It's not ground-breaking or genre-defining, but Electronic Super Joy masters the retro-style platformer. It's stunning visually and sonically, and the presentation is tied in directly to the arresting gameplay that's complemented perfectly by tight controls and super smart level design. Hardcore platforming fans will be completely at home here.
Electronic Super Joy has a distinctive visual flair, a healthy dose of indie humour and a particularly awesome electro soundtrack. Yet the best thing about the game is its tight and responsive gameplay. Indie platformers are pumped out like clockwork these days but it’s a real treat when the traditional formula is executed this well.
Electronic Super Joy isn't a game for everyone, far from it. It's extremely difficult, prompting this reviewer to swear more than in recent memory and battle with the urge to fling the controller across the room in a rage. Yet it's brilliant and addictive, with a unique blend of visual trickery and clever design - along with a pumping soundtrack - to keep us coming back.
While it's not a groundbreaking moment for the 2D platforming genre, Electronic Super Joy is a welcome addition to the eShop which will be thoroughly enjoyed by its players.
Electronic Super Joy is a simple platformer that delivers everything it wants in a nice way.
