Bugs aside, this trip to Camp Crystal Lake is a bloody irresistible delight. [Sept 2017, p.73]

The classic slasher returns with Friday The 13th, an impeccable work that has all the essence of the movies and the legendary killer Jason Voorhees.

In the future, we may view Friday The 13th as one of the year's great games. Its mix of laugh out loud moments and tense chase sequences is unique, refreshing, and a draw even if you're not usually a multiplayer fan. As it stands currently, however, the game is weighed down by far too many issues that hurt the overall experience. A lot of the game requires wits and patience, but it'll be hard to retain those qualities when the game is regularly throwing technical flaws at you. The bright side of this is its issues rarely relate to design. Bugs can be patched, like some already have been. If Illfonic can rein in the many issues seen in Friday The 13th it will go down as a classic multiplayer game. Until then, it's simply wishful thinking.

Friday the 13th: The Game invites us to survive a night in Crystal Lake. We must flee as campers or kill if we are Jason. Although the idea is a good one and the matches are fun, there isn’t content enough and in the technical aspects the game aren't up to snuff.

Illfonic's game offers a very captivating gameplay loop with original and effective mechanics, but it ends up being dragged down by too many technical flaws and too few contents. It feels like an early access game at an overly too high price, and that's a pity as it shows great potential.

While the concepts are interesting and really have something special in mind, the execution and technical issues really hold back Friday the 13th from living up to its own hype. There are a few moments of fun here and there, but the Xbox One version is still having issues finding games for people, myself included. I hear the other versions are in better shape than this one, so if you’re still really interested in it, maybe get if for PC or PS4. Even then, I must warn you, there is some fun to see, but in the end it is still a clunky, random experience that I feel needed a few more months of development.

It’s very sad to say that Friday the 13th: The Game, after all the hype and excitement of a game that could have truly represented the incredible franchise, is the most unstable, unreliable and underwhelming game I’ve played in a long time.

You start out with 8 players, one playing as Jason and 7 others as concillors from rejected stereotyoes. Each of them have to try and get to escape via boat, car or by the police or by hiding but this NEVER works. Jason has to salughter each of them in various gruesome ways by body parts, stabbing or others.

The game is clever as there is a good bit of strategy involved if you want to go it alone or work together all the while grabbing items trying to feebly stave off Jason from brutally murdering you.

That's the gist of the game and the detail in the game from the developers shows they care about it a lot (well at least they did but more on that later). The amount of nuggets and easter eggs in the game is amazing. There is also the single player with side missions and the head scratcher that is the virtual cabin.

Where the game lacks is the glitches there is some bugs that can ruin the game but they are very light now. The other thing is that despite the fact that it was meant to have more DLC on the way, the company has decided not to add the Grendal and Uber Jason despite the fact it was meant to be added.

Overall a solid 9/10, very enjoyable. November 2018 for a more up to date review.

However the game is so much fun when your with friends or a lobby with people with mic which is a lot of the time due to lfg. Its the chill nature of the game and the sense of community that makes it worth a purchase if you are playing with friends or are ok with talking to stranger if you dont have a mic dont both with this. I was so excited when i bought it. then we had launch issues. alright, i"m aware that this type of thing happens sometimes so i didn't let it bug me too much. the game was a lot of fun and i assumed the whole disconnecting from every game would subside. then we got patches and everything was going fine....Except you still get kicked out of 8 of every 10 games. It's absolutely ridiculous that i can barely make it all the way through any matches! fix the servers and i"m sure a lot of ratings go up. i love playing but I just can't handle getting kicked anymore. This is another - No Man's Sky! Full of broken promises and hiding behind a lawsuit.
Gun media was quick to pass the game over to - Dark Towers etc and stop and more money from going into this broken mess!
They say they can't fix the game because of the lawsuit that has nothing to do with them nor the game, it has to do with the first movie etc etc
They claim they can't even fix the stuff that is already in the game like the cars, trees etc but yet the release the game on another system and then a year latter onto another system the Switch.
Just save your money and never sent it to this company!
By the way this IS the same company that is making - The Predator! So you now know that will be a broken mess as well!
Even at the new price of $5.00 PASS!

They only got the beta while everyone else got the latest version of the game -- not that that has helped anyone else.

The game is essentially broken right now. The only way to play it is to do a workaround in the game hub on your console. It's impossible to get a match going in-game.

A week or two delay could have fixed most of this. A soft launch/extended beta also could have fixed things.

Patches should be coming this week (5/30/2017), but I don't know that for sure, or that it'll fix everything. I'm out $40 and now at the mercy of these developers to follow through on their promises.
