Each jigsaw puzzle has been designed extremely well and without a doubt the creativity that’s within them makes each jigsaw feel very fresh. In terms of content the game has just the right amount for me because it doesn’t grow old which means you don’t get frustrated nor bored. It features an easy to pick up and play style which means gamers of all ages can get involved and solve the various jigsaws that are on offer. For me I think they got the difficulty balance perfect because each puzzle contains a challenge. Once you complete the game there isn’t any real replay value. The controls feel a little clunky at times which can cause you to be a little distracted every now and then. I like nothing more than tackling an action-packed adventure it’s nice sometimes to deviate from that and instead try out a more relaxing experience. The problem is there isn’t too many of them games about so Glass Masquerade was a very welcome addition to the Xbox One game library. At its core then this game is all about solving jigsaw puzzles at your own pace and to say they’ve done these jigsaw puzzles extremely well would be a massive understatement. Every jigsaw feels fresh due to the variety that’s present within them and whilst it doesn’t have a huge amount of content for you to get to grips with there’s just enough to keep you satisfied whilst at the same time not overstaying its welcome. Everybody can get involved in this game as well because it features an easy to pick up and play style that can be enjoyed by everybody. The game also makes sure that each puzzle has got the perfect balance of being fun and challenging at the same time so you don’t come across many frustrating moments at all. In terms of problems the game for me only had one and that came in form of the controls feeling a little clunky at times, but thankfully I was easily able to look past this. At the end of the day then if you’re looking for a relaxing journey with a beautiful art style and sound design then Glass Masquerade is a game that you must experience because it does what it sets out to do perfectly. Two thumbs up! Expand

Great calm game for when you just want to relax. Not many games like it on the Xbox.

Glass Masquerade doesn’t have much in the way of a story, but that’s fine because it doesn’t really need one. From what I could gather, you play as a visitor of the International Times Exhibition: Dedicated to the decorative stained glass artisans of the 20th Century. You explore different galleries that represent countries all over the world and solve jigsaw puzzles based on a theme that’s representative to that country. For example: the Russia gallery is a puzzle motif of Yuri Gargarin.

From the start menu, Glass Masquerade has a gorgeous and striking stained glass art direction that carries over into each of the 25 puzzles you’ll be solving. The core gameplay loop is… well, puzzle solving. The game initially starts you off at the France gallery, but afterwards you’re free to unlock and explore other galleries as you see fit. Puzzles are rated on a difficulty scale of 3 to 5 stars, though I suspect that might be more of a subjective rating depending on whose playing the game. I personally found all of the 3 star puzzles pretty straight forward, although I didn’t feel much of a difficulty spike between the 4 and 5 star puzzles. Again, your mileage in this game might be different. If you keep hints in this game enabled, each puzzle will provide a few pieces that line up with certain outer edges of the puzzle. This will provide players with a useful jumping off point if, like me, you aren’t that big on jigsaw puzzles in general. Sure, there were some moments where I felt a bit flustered trying to figure out where the pieces fit, but nothing beats the catharsis of having that moment where it suddenly ‘clicks’ for you, rapidly assembling pieces of the puzzle and watching as you place the last few pieces in their place.

While you are timed on how long it takes to complete each puzzle, don’t let that scare you off of this game. You aren’t penalized for taking your time on a puzzle and there are no timed/speed running achievements in this game.

The music in this game is great, it really helps established the mood of this being a fairly chill, relaxing puzzle game.

Overall, Glass Masquerade is a pretty easy game to recommend. My playthrough lasted a little over 4 hours with no use of a guide.

Glass Masquerade does deliver on its aims to a certain extent. It looks good, sounds okay and is a pitched at around the right level of challenge. If you like completing jigsaw puzzles it’s well worth a play, however, if you find them frustrating then my advice is to stay away – this game might just increase stress rather than relieve it.

A literal puzzle game, with very relaxing gameplay and great art design. Too bad for some technical problems and control hiccups that detract from the overall experience.

If action is the only thing you look for in a videogame, this is absolutely not for you, but if you know what a Tiffany Lamp is this game will delight you.
