Your appreciation of Gods Remastered is going to come down to whether you're familiar with the original. By today's standards, the general movement and combat is clunky, and the enemy appearances can be considered cheap. However, changing any of this would run the risk of destroying the memories that old players have of the title. If you've played the game before, this will be a nice nostalgia kick. Otherwise, new players might be better served elsewhere unless they are really into retro titles, warts and all.

A great nostalgia ride but one which will only last you a short while.

Should you like challenging platformers then GODS Remastered is one you’ll want to give a go. It doesn’t bring any of the modern style platforming mechanics we’ve come to take for granted and the movement is quite honestly horrible, but if you can get past that then what you’ve got is a capable and rewarding experience.

Gods Remastered is a mixed bag of pros and cons. Whilst the game’s structure and its pace has maintained its quality quite well over the last two and a half decades, the game’s combat and its handling remains far removed from acceptable standards. Still, one has to appreciate the work that’s gone into the remastered aspects here. It’s just a shame that much of the game’s charm is weighed down by its dated functionality.

I won’t disparage what GODS is and always was, which is quite simply one of the greatest of its time - but that denomination of era is crucially important here. Because judged up against its contemporaries, the original was a powerhouse - but there’s simply no real place for it in 2018.

It looks like 2019, but it plays like 1991. Despite the fact that Gods Remastered is a good-looking re-skin of an older title, the most important factor in any title is the gameplay. Robot Riot UG probably wanted to retain the original feel of the title for newer fans, and they still could've, but still this could be much better, with a bit more work to tidy up the fluency of the controls and the animations. However, if the older animations and controls can be ignored, then this is a good way to deep dive into an older game for nostalgia's sake for older fans, or for newer fans who wish to experience what games used to be like.

Man, this game throws me back to 1991. If you want to replay this classic on the current-gen consoles, please support these developers. TheMan, this game throws me back to 1991. If you want to replay this classic on the current-gen consoles, please support these developers. The only negative thing I can think of is the remastered sound design, just use the original sounds. The remastered sound design just makes my ears bleed, it's so bad : there's no volume control, sounds just sound obnoxious, the remastered ost is so badly mixed. If you play this game with the classic sounds it deserves an 8,5. If you bought this game, please revert your standard setting to the original sounds, only then you will get the true GODS experience. Nevertheless, the bad remastered sound design doesn't reflect the quality of the game luckily. Graphics, gameplay etc. are beautifully remastered, don't let the bad sound mix get in your way of enjoying the game. Expand

They’ve doneThe presentation side has been done really well and being able to switch between different visual styles was a nice addition. They’ve done justice with the remaster for the most part because they’ve remained true to the original game while also giving it a modern touch as well. I really enjoyed the level design because even though they’re on the small side there is secrets to find which makes each level feel rewarding. There’s a decent variety of weapons and power-ups you can buy during your time with the game and they’ve done a good job of making each one feel important. Some aspects of the game haven’t aged well and these aspects can cause you to become frustrated every now and then. The bosses were a little disappointing due to a lack of variety present in them which meant nothing much stands out in these battles. While the game has a decent amount of weapons for you to purchase this unfortunately still doesn’t stop the combat from getting repetitive. It’s hard to imagine that GODS is over 20 years old already. Age aside I was looking forward to experience the remaster because I remember that the original game was both fun and difficult. Thankfully they’ve managed to keep this successful formula and while it’s not the best remaster I’ve ever played I appreciate the effort that has gone into keeping it original whilst also retaining a modern touch as well. This modern touch then comes in the form of its presentation which has been done well. You don’t have to play it like this though because the game also offers you the original presentation which I must admit was a nice touch. In terms of the gameplay there are some pros and cons. The pros come in the form of good level design and a decent amount of weapons for you to purchase along the way. Unfortunately the cons aren’t too far behind and they come in the form of certain aspects not aging very well and the fact that the combat gets very repetetive quite quickly despite the amount of weapons available to you. That being said GODS Remastered does just enough to warrant a recommendation from me and if you enjoyed the original game then I’m quite sure that you’ll find some enjoyment here despite its shortcomings. Give it a try most definitely if you are a fan of the original, or you're looking for a fair priced offering. Expand
