•The world is just so•The story in this game could use some work as I don’t love all the vagueness of it, but it’s definitely interesting.
•The world is just so damn cool. Like the levels are so well interwoven and layered it’s really well done.
•The combat and platforming in this game are astounding sometimes. And it’s great how well they work together. Just controlling the Knight is fantastic and really responsive. Basic enemies are usually somewhat boring to fight (though the more complex ones do keep it interesting). But god damn some of the boss battles are just excellent. Like truly some of the best I’ve ever experienced in any game. Some are just ok, but them being good was the rule and not the exception.
•The music and sound effects in this game are noticeably really good.
•Exploring in this game is a bit of a mixed bag. I know for a fact I missed stuff because my percentage was like 15% from 100%, but the fact that I don’t care to finish it should say something. I don’t think it’s bad by aaaaany means, in fact, I was compelled to go through any path that showed up on my map. But I really don’t want to keep going back to the same areas looking for hidden stuff. Most of the levels were great and good looking, and sections that incorporated your abilities were usually very well done and fun to do, but running through the same places over and over became a bit of a theme and it just wasn’t interesting a lot of the time. I had to keep a video on in the background to keep from getting bored during these portions. The fast travel systems are really cool to use, but they don’t get you everywhere you need to go well enough to keep things interesting all the time. And it doesn’t really help that you had to run through areas after dying to bosses as well. I do love the “Metroidvania” part of it though where getting new abilities gives you access to new areas in places you’ve been. That’s cool as hell. Still, though, this also creates the issue of not knowing where to go to actually progress, and if that path marked on the map is actually something you can go down since so many paths require certain abilities. As much as I did like realizing oh **** I got an ability for that now, coming back and finding out oh I just wasted my time was not so great. Plus, I know I missed a few things despite being pretty thorough, meaning the things I did miss were areas hidden behind breakable walls (which aren’t very obvious sometimes).
•I really like how challenging the game can be at times. The whole Dark Souls-esque souls recovery system is really cool here, where you’ve gotta fight your shadow. Not much else to say than that.
•The charm system is pretty cool and diversifies gameplay which is a very good thing.
•The characters in this game are sooooooooo charming. Literally every single actual character has some aspect to them that’s either adorable or interesting and it’s great. Dialogue isn’t excellent, but it is well done. The designs of nearly everything is top notch- there are over a hundred separate enemies and they all genuinely feel different. It’s really impressive. Oh plus the Knight has a perfect simplistic design I love it.
I really really really like this game. It’s soooo fun at some points, but it’s definitely not perfect. I got frustrated or annoyed a decent amount of times at some unfair things, but that was mostly minimal and I found myself thinking about how fair the game usually is. I was always interested in what might be down one path, and I was almost always looking forward to what came next, especially with the bosses. The only thing that keeps it back from the experience as a whole being amazing is that it can get repetitive quite a bit.… Expand
