He needs to make a lot of money fast, and thanks to his career criminal best friend Joe, soon becomes entangled with the mob. As Vito, you need to prove yourself by committing crimes of escalating reward, status, and consequence. But what happens when your motivations become less about necessity and more about greed? When having it all is not enough? For the first time ever, Mafia II: Definitive Edition packs the entire Mafia II crime drama into one HD package. HDR and 4K resolution are supported on PC as well as on PlayStation®4 Pro and Xbox One X consoles. Mafia II: Definitive Edition also benefits from improved facial animations to give cutscenes an even more cinematic feel. While technological and graphical improvements have given Empire Bay and its inhabitants a visual overhaul, Vito's timeless story is unchanged. Expand

Mafia II tells one of the best character-driven stories in all of gaming and it does so in a masterful way. Its gameplay may not deviate from genre norms yet it remains a wholly immersive and gripping tale that you'll want to see through to its jaw-dropping end.

It has been good to go back to Mafia II after a decade. The visual upgrades that have been implemented to the cityscape are great, and it has been hugely entertaining to be reminded of the story again, one that tells a great tale with enough twists and turns to keep any Mafia crime fan happy.

Mafia II Definitive Edition is a good remaster of the original game, with an important facelift that feels perfect, but with some technical flaws.

Mafia II isn't the definitive edition we would want for such a great game as its filled with bugs and suffers in performance, although the story is still a good enough to reason to try it if you didn't play the original.

Console players wanted to get a graphically updated game with PC version features added. Instead, they received a product full of bugs and technical flaws, and PC version turned out inferior to the original in may ways. It's possible that some of the remaster's problems will be resolved in the future with patches, but it's too early to recommend Mafia 2: Definitive Edition, so it's better to wait for the sale.

In 2020, Mafia 2 is a game greater than the sum of its parts. It shows its age in several areas, and though flawed, it still has its merits.
  7. 40
Mafia II: Definitive Edition is anything but definitive. With its bugs, audio mishaps, and technical flaws, you could make a case for the 2010 original being superior.

This game is laggy with sudden frame rate drops and environmental load ins. Game likes to auto close on my Xbox one S. Was not worth purchasing.

Poor graphical improvements (where you can even spot any), bugs that were present 10 years ago still persist (the enforcer achievement doesn't unlock), broken cutscenes, textures and shadows, when playing a cutscene with headphones all the audio only plays through one side and unable to surpass or even maintain 30fps in a 10 year old game running on an Xbox One X. The only apparent effort in this game is in the 30 additional wanted posters they've added for each developer that supposedly worked on this remaster.
    Game deserved so much better.
