The new Metal Gear Online is a satisfying online romp based on the singularly best game mechanics the MGS series has ever seen, as experienced in MGS5. One only wishes to see the same level of variation in maps and game modes as in the extensive character customization. [Nov 2015]
MGO3 is extremely fun and a solid bet for both those who just want to "shoot at things" and stealth-lovers. Only the lack of content keeps it away from being one of the greatest onlines games ever. We'll definitely keep an eye on future updates.

The Phantom Pain is the kind of game I thought would never exist - one where every minute gameplay detail has true purpose. Its lack of story focus is sure to be divisive for the Metal Gear faithful, but the resulting emphasis on my story, my tales of Espionage Action, easily make it my favorite in the series. There have certainly been sandbox action games that have given me a bigger world to roam, or more little icons to chase on my minimap, but none have pushed me to plan, adapt, and improvise the way this one does.

Metal Gear Online has a great potential, but the developers need to improve and rebalance the game to make it shine. Playing it right after it was released felt like driving a supercar on a road ridden with potholes. [13/2015, p.56]
Metal Gear Online is not the same game we used to love years ago. Konami has changed everything, killing any stealth and tactical playstyle for a quicker and more modern gameplay. Someone could like the lack of difference between good and poor players, but we'll miss the unique gameplay of the previous Metal Gear Online.
The internet connection of the host is the deciding factor in how good the experience is in Metal Gear Online. Even with a stellar multiplayer on paper, the limitations enacted by the lack of dedicated servers keep this from being what it could and should be.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend picking up the entire Metal Gear Solid V package just for online play, as it still has a lot to prove. I'm pulling for it to get better, but I don't trust Konami.
MGO’s fundamentals are great, and the experience it can create in the best modes is nothing short of exceptional. But these are high points in what is otherwise a polished but meagre offering, a multiplayer mode that feels lacking in depth and longevity. MGSV’s singleplayer saw Kojima Productions over-deliver and leave with a bang. In such company, the LA studio’s MGO is little more than a whimper.
Metal Gear Online is fun in concept, but in practice, it feels like nothing more than a lifeless COD clone.

Metal Gear Online is certainly better than the F.O.B multiplayer they had previously, but that's not saying much. You get to create your own character, which is nice, but that doesn't make up for the glaring problems that plague MGO. First of all, the Walker is way too overpowered, and whoever gets the Walker has automatically won the match, secondly, you can easily survive an entire match by spraying bullets aimlessly across the map, and get results! In the MGS4 multiplayer that would never happen. The maps and gameplay are the main things that hold up MGO. Camp Omega, and a dense jungle are probably the best maps. MGO comes free with MGSV, so you have a choice of playing it, but I wouldn't reccomend playing it.

i want to give this game a red review so bad because it let me down on so many levels. but i am trying to look at it as a separate game and not as a metal gear solid let down. as a game it is a 7. it's a fun concept building your base, but the missions are all repetitive. both the story and the side missions. as a metal gear solid game i give this a 4. what i expect from MGS is a story. not a game made to work with microtransactions. it taints the image of the GMS franchise. it is ok if MGS is a railroad shooter, leading you along the way. that's ok.. it's metal gear. But it was taken in withe the idea it had to be open world, it had to be more. but MGS was always enough. if it wasn't broke don't fix it... or should i say... if it was always good why the hell are you changing it now!

Most disappointing game ever! I used to play MGO2 as my main game for years. That game had charm, a learning curve and it was its own thing. MGO3 is supposed to be a follow-up to MGO2?! It's literally an insult to even call it MGO. It has such a poor amount of content that it might as well have been an extra feature on the iDroid in TPP called "Versus Ops" and perhaps then it wouldn't be as bad. Calling it MGO and having it separate puts expectations on it. Expectations that it doesn't even come close to living up to.
The worst part is that some content is actually pretty good. Some maps and modes. Bounty Hunter is a fresh take on TDM. You can tell there was talent in the team. The issue must have been the leadership ordering a third person CoD so they could focus on a "wide western audience."
Though luck! That audience doesn't exist. They expected people to leave behind CoD and BF for this mess? And the fans of MGO want niche. We don't want some third person CoD with the MGO name slapped on and a few semi-niche features which doesn't change the overall impression enough anyway.
Konami quickly abandoned this game. Perhaps they knew you can't polish a turd.
Positives:
A few good maps and the modes are decent.
Negatives:
- Ridiculously low amount of content throughout the game. Modes, maps, unique characters, weapons and gear. Where's SNE, RES, TDM and CAP? And where's the classic MGS locations turned into maps?
- There's no "MGS feel." The legacy of MGS has been ignored. No maps for example is taken from any of the classics, which wasn't the case in MGO2.
- Lacking options when hosting.
- Stealth camo in any mode makes the game unbalanced.
- Features taken directly from other games such as Ascension.
- Gameplay gets boring quickly.
- Poor mic support on the PS3 version.

I knew this game would be mediocre once it was announced it was being developed by western devs. What I didn't know though is that it was going to be absolute crap. What a shame, MGO is dead.
