Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix shows that the developers cared enough about their work to listen to fans. By increasing the character count, expanding the gameplay mechanics with pit crews, and overall increasing the game quality, this game is a secret favorite that is worthy of your time.
Here, nostalgia probably adds to your enjoyment, but even if you strip all that away, you’re still left with a pretty solid kart racer that adds one or two things to the usual formula.
I've been playing this game for more than 20 hours and I'm still unlocking content and enjoying it. The improvements in comparison with the first NKR game are huge. Definitely the best addition to the franchise is the crew system. Having so many customization options based on so many characters you can choose from really gives the game their own personality and makes me feel that I still have many things to discover. Driving mechanics were improved so now almost every character feels different from another and ,although almost all the power ups are inspired in Mario Kart items, the crew chiefs change the racing experience in a great way. If you are into karting games or you are a Nickelodeon fan, this game is definitely for you!
Let's be real. This is not Mario Kart, but that doesn't mean it cannot be good (i mean, if you were expecting nothing less than a MK8 just go play that one instead, what's the point on buying another game to play the same thing with different skins). Sure it copies a lot from MK, but at this point, which game doesn't? MK has mechanics that works on any other racing kart game, why would any developer ditch them.
The crew system is pretty good and it feels fresh. The visuals are good too, the music is (thank god) such an improvement from the first one, tracks feels good, the rooster is awesome, challenges are "challenging" enough to keep you entertained, if you want to go hardcore beat Insane with 3 stars (i Double-Dare you).
No voice overs... so?, if it were a SpongeBob game and it didn't have voice overs, fine complain all you want. It's a 30 characters game, how much do you really expect them to talk? also, **** needs VO to be rated "good" it means it's not even good at first place.
Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 brings a fresh new wind to karting. The game lets you play as your favorite cartoon characters like The Turtles, Ren and Stimpy, and SpongeBob. The racing part of the game is great. You can shoot other drivers with power-ups and protect yourself with them. Besides racing, you can play different modes like the Arena battle, which makes this a complete game for a lot less than the average karting game.
Mario, Sonic and Crash don't have to worry about losing their parking spots with anyone but the most diehard Nick fans. But as these things go? They did all right. [Issue #50 – January/February 2021, p. 71]
After the disaster that was the first game, this is a remarkable turnaround. With far more Nickelodeon series represented, improved track designs and a power-up customisation feature that lets you enhance your personal racing style, Nickelodeon Kart Racer has gone from one of the most disappointing racing series on the Switch to probably the best one that doesn't feature plumbers or hedgehogs.
If you love Nickelodeon shows, will make use of the online multiplayer, and find it on sale, I’d say check out Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix. But without any character clips, I feel like this game wasn’t for me. It drove me crazy.
While Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is a much improved and enjoyable sequel, the lack of voice acting stops the game from feeling like an authentic Nickelodeon experience.
NKR2 was, and still is, a good Mario Kart clone, and is the best out of the other Nickelodeon racing games & crossovers. Most of the characters are brand new, and introduced other Nicktoons that were cut from the first game, like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Invader Zim and so much more! however, the controls are as identcal as Nickelodeon Kart Racers, just with the addition to stunts and no transformation mechanics anymore, and the fact that Jojo Siwa is here for some odd reason (probably to represent girls more, but I'm not complaining), and there's STILL no voice acting, and that was an issue in the 1st game!, whatever, even though this game has it's problems (and good stuff),every single drop of slime that emerges from Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 is just fine(And oh yeah, it finally has more unlockable features like characters and a whole new difficulty, more than just car parts & cups that are just compilations of specific race tracks and renditions).
The pit crew system is the real deal. It's the big difference from other karting games, and opens up an immense amount of strategy and replayability. I can't stress enough how cool this is, both for single player challenges and competitive play. Still no voices, but the roster is incredible, game controls great, graphics are much better and music is finally good and representative of the series.
Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 Grand Prix
This is how you do a sequel.
Nearly every gripe I had in my review of the first Nickelodeon Kart Racers has been fixed here in Kart Racers 2
almost as if developers actually watch care and listen to feedback
That being said there are still a few minor adjustments gamemill can make for the eventual 3rd game in th series..
Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 Grand Prix is as youd guess a kart racer with nickelodeon characters, and this time you can feel time, effort, and care went into crafting the sequel.. as here there are more than double the amount of charcters in the first, infact there are 30 characters to unlock vs the original 12, and that’s right, you heard right.. unlock.. you have to unlock them.. a huge knock against the first, the first game had no replayability, but here theres so much to unlock and do in kart racers 2 that this has actual potential to be a racing staple in your collection, there are grand prixs to race and win, all with tracks that feel varied and alive.. a huge improvmenet over the original game, though just a little more care needs to go into them as I didn’t find any particularly fun to race on.. but thankfully the overhaul in the mechanics make racing fun enough on its own. Collecting slime tokens to go faster, collecting slime to unlock an ability to help you in the race, I love the collectin aspect, making kart racers 2 feel more strategic rather than simply relying on the mystery box.. youll also unlock different crew members that help you in different ways, and I really wish it stayed at that… a huge gripe I have in kart racers is when racers have no personality, and that sadly is the case here… for the sake of parents, there is no voice acting or taunts as you play which really makes the racing feel flat and while there are individual character stats, you can throw on different performance items to really make it not matter who youre playing as… same with the support characters you unlock, I feel they should be attached to the characters of their show to make this game and its characters feel like it has a little personality…
This is my biggest gripe overall with kart racers 2, from its characters to its tracks which should be viewed as characters themselves.. its all flat and lifeless compared only to its potential, but compared to the original game, this is all still a massive jump forward.
Other improvements come through faster racing modes, online and local multiplayer with up to 4 players and a ahcllaenge mode where you can complete a variety of challenges to unlock more main characters and support characters..
While Nickelodeon Kart Racers as a series needs more polish, I was impressed with the improvements here, making nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 an actual pretty solid kart racing game
I give Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 Grand Prix
a 7/10
