Planet Rix-13 is a strange, trippy diversion onto a surreal world that’s ultimately worth taking. It doesn’t cost much and it won’t last long, but there’s worse options out there if you want to distract yourself for a couple of hours.

Planet Rix-13 consists of little more than constant fetch questing, with the majority of its necessities nonsensically strewn in plain view throughout its hour-long run. The problem that this generates, amidst its poorly structured story and its feeble puzzle work, is that it all feels far too guided. Despite its cheap cost, and unless you’re only looking to bulk up your Gamerscore, this game isn’t worth your time nor your attention.

The puzzles whilst not extremely challenging had a decent amount of variety present in them which made completing them fun and enjoyable. IThe puzzles whilst not extremely challenging had a decent amount of variety present in them which made completing them fun and enjoyable. I really enjoyed the story in the game and I must admit that I didn’t expect it to be as interesting as it was but it did remain interesting at all times. There is a distinct atmosphere created by the visual aspect of the game and this atmosphere is further enhanced by the different deaths you come across. In terms of content the game has very little and once completed you’re highly unlikely to return back to the game again. There are a few decent puzzles included that’s pretty much it when it comes to the gameplay side of things. I was a little disappointed with the sound design because there isn’t much depth here which is a shame because the visuals have been done well. For me the game held my hand far too much and it would’ve been nice to have had more freedom because that would’ve made the gameplay more compelling. The first thing that came to my mind when playing Planet RIX-13 was just how strange it was and this did in a way make me intrigued to see what happened next. As I progressed then it did become quite clear that there is a decent and interesting story for you to enjoy but it also became clear that the game had a few shortcomings as well which do hold the game back quite considerably. One of the biggest shortcomings then is when it comes to the gameplay. I say this because the gameplay doesn’t have much depth present in it at all and despite there being a few interesting puzzles included that’s pretty much all there is. This then means that there isn’t much content for you to get to grips with and once completed you’re highly unlikely to return back to the game again and in some ways that isn’t a bad thing because throughout my time with the game I was crying out for a little more freedom, but sadly that never materialised. At the end of the day then Planet RIX-13 is one of them games that will be loved by some and hated by others, and whilst the game does have some good points included it just gets a few too many things wrong which means I can’t give the game a solid recommendation even if it’s cheap when it comes to its price.
