Aside from little niggles, and all in all then, Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs Royal Edition just works. Apart from the loading and the saving, the game is very entertaining, and plays like a love letter to earlier JRPGs. The story is very entertaining, the voice acting of the characters makes you care about the story, and the hook of trying to complete all the quests in the available time leads you to some tense moments.

Regalia is a great example of crowd funded games developing something that is tremendously fun to play. While other indie games try to be fun, they all take a knee to Regalia. You'll even find a few nods of respect to other tremendous games. When you look at the other releases that are out there on the Xbox platform, Regalia is truly a king amongst them.

The fighting can occasionally feel unfair and the plot is average, but the engaging combat as well as the humorous tone of the narrative combine together to create a solid and entertaining JRPG experience.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a game that tries to do it all. It has influences of Persona, Disgaea, Atelier, and Final Fantasy Tactics all wrapped into one. While it does have some missteps, overall this is a solid game that can really take a player by surprise at just how big it really can be. Tactical RPG players and story driven RPG players will have a great time with Regalia, and even with its faults, I still recommend it to anyone that enjoys a complex RPG.

Despite its seemingly grim premise, Regalia goes on to produce a surprisingly witty, well structured and strategic RPG adventure. There’s no denying that this game is better suited on the keyboard and mouse, but if you can overlook these niggling controller issues, a wonderfully written and endearing journey awaits.

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a tactical RPG whose main mission will be to restore the ancient glory of a kingdom in decline. We will embark on an adventure that will make you remember the JRPG style. Form a team to manage your kingdom, forge alliances and eliminate your enemies in a fantastic turn-based combat system.

Thankfully it lived up to its potential and as far as strategy RPG’s are concerned Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a very good addition to the genre. Something that really stood out for me in this game was its story. The story is charming and packed full of humour and the best thing is that it keeps you invested throughout your time with the game. This is a very good thing because there is a huge amount of content for you to get to grips with and the story makes the content even better which is impressive because the content that’s in the game is already very good. The main reason why the content is so good is because they’ve done a wonderful job of making each task you can undertake matter and the amount of variety each task has makes it both fun and enjoyable which ultimately means the game has a lot of replayability. You will however have to get used to some of the time limit tasks because they can be a little frustrating at times and a little bit more freedom would’ve been nice here, but this is only a small problem and you will get used to these tasks relatively quick. You can’t mention the tasks in the game without mentioning a very important aspect of a strategy RPG and that is the combat. The combat that’s in the game is awesome and everything about it feels solid and responsive throughout. It also rewards you greatly when in battle and this means if you die you don’t get too frustrated and you want to carry on immediately. You will however have to get used to the fiddly camera when in battle and the awkwardness of it can be a little annoying at times, but thankfully as you progress you tend to forget about this slight annoyance. One of my most favourite things about this game was without a doubt the presentation. Visually the game has a beautiful art style that captures your imagination and when you combine that with the excellent sound design and voice acting you end up having a very enjoyable and immersive experience. At the end of the day Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs takes all the good things an RPG offers you and delivers them to you in an almost flawless manner and this means if you’re a fan of these types of games then Regalia is an absolute must buy. I never once got bored with this game because it was fun from start to finish and in the end it’s a game that gets a very big recommendation from me. Expand
