The presentation is mostly excellent, with a good looking game powered by a solid engine underneath that results in exceptional realism. If you're expecting to pick it up and win right away, forget it, there's a real challenge involved. I'm also delighted that it's coming with Xbox One X enhancements.

Rugby 18 is a great rugby game, developed for all rugby's fans but could be a rude videogame for all the players who don't know the rules because it's a fussy game. If you love rugby, this is the best game ever.

Rugby 18's high points are a good competitions databases, even if lacking the Six Nations, and some good gameplay elements. It still has to improve in many areas though, mainly ruck management and sound.

Overall and Rugby 18 is a game for die hard rugby fans who know every move and have the patience for the slow gameplay.

Does a few good things, but is horribly basic compared to other big sporting titles. [Christmas 2017, p.90]

Right now, there are just too many bugs, too many exploits, and just too little simulation of the best parts of the sport it tries to replicate for me to recommend Rugby 18. This is a solid base to build upon, but with so many great playgrounds out there playing on a solid concrete foundation with a few stray woodchips for safety just doesn’t have much appeal.

Rugby 18 is a game that does have a few problems but quite a bit of the time it delivers a good rugby game experience, which is great. I was very impressed with the controls in the game and I think they’ve done a wonderful job of keeping the controls simple and responsive. I was also impressed with some of the mechanics in the game and the main reason for that is that they’ve managed to create a realistic feel to them. I did however get frustrated with the rucks quite a few times and I think that was mainly down to them making them more complicated than they should have been. The gameplay though feels very rewarding especially when you use a lot of teamwork to complete a successful try. I love the challenge the game gives you and it’s definitely a game that rewards skill and the luck is not high in the game, which is great. There isn’t however much in terms of content in the game. There is very few modes for you to play and this means the game suffers with a lack of replay value, which is a shame. The presentation side of the game has some good points and bad points. Visually the game looks pretty good and it does more than enough to immerse you in the gameplay. The sound design though is pretty poor, and my biggest problem was definitely the lacklustre and tedious commentary. At the end of the day fans of rugby games will definitely find some enjoyment here, and on the whole it plays pretty good. Don’t get me wrong this game isn’t for everyone and it does have a few issues here and there, but I definitely enjoyed the game more than I hated it. If you have been craving an acceptable rugby game then Rugby 18 will definitely scratch that itch a bit. Expand
