Short review: Force Unleashed mixed with 25 % Arkham Asylum combat and 75% Zelda puzzles, the Dark Souls save system, and modern graphics with good cut scenes, Sadly also includes graphical glitches and a bug where the game thinks you haven't downloaded a specific planet and wont let you progress.

The problem is that sometimes the games doesn't really feel like Star Wars, in that, 75% of each planet is made up of Zelda style exploration where you have to solve puzzles. The combat that is in the game is mainly made up of fighting creatures, with Imperial forces tending to be saved for boss fights or key plot points. To top it off the creatures and environment tend to be more deadly than the Imperials in general. On higher difficulties combat melds into a Arkham Asylum style hack and slash, with force powers sometimes having little impact and hence making them mainly for puzzles. Some bosses are even best tackled by running away and then special attacking, rinse, repeat. First thing you will notice on boot up is graphical glitches, which are just about tolerable. I also had a glitch saying I couldn't load planets.

Yes, this is the best modern single player Star Wars game, but it still suffers from being strictly a theme park. Relatively, it's nowhere near as good as Jedi Knight 2 or 3 was for the genre when they were released. The game barrows heavily from Dark Souls, but then one of the greatest Star Wars games (Galaxies) borrowed heavily from Ever Quest, so that is hardly a sin.

It's a good Star Wars game, not the best, but good - the best in modern times, sure.

But is it a good game? Not really. It's just the top end of being okay.

If it were a sandbox I'd give it +1

If it had more original features I'd give it +1

If it felt more like Star Wars all the time I'd give it +1

3 things that would make the game perfect, but 3 big things that the game is lacking.

A grab bag of established techniques that ultimately fall short, Uncharted style action/exploration that’s let down by shonky controls. Sekiro style combat that’s way too loose and unbalanced, getting more and more aggravating as the game progresses. A linear map that forces you to backtrack after you reach your destination, that makes you revisit to explore deeper after unlocking new powers. And a special mention to the bug, oh so many performance bugs (and I’m on X1X), nothing game breaking but bad pop in, loading screens at the worse times, textures constantly loading in at the last second causes a really jarring experience. But, if you are a fan of Star Wars this is a must to play for for the story alone, solid emotional performances just made me want to keep playing. Issues aside, I still recommend playing it, there is a nugget of gold in this turd. Expand

Aside from that, they might as well have called this game “Jedi falls off of everything”. Not once during the entire time you play do you actually feel like a Jedi. Even the most basic storm trooper with a baton will block every attack. They say you were supposed to feel like a Jedi in this game. I feel more like a drunkard with a pool noodle. I finally had to resort to playing on story mode just to try and milk any enjoyment out of this. It is simply way too hard. And it becomes more of a chore and a punishment than anything else. The dark souls style of combat has always been punishing and I don’t see how anyone gets enjoyment out of it. Not to mention, even with lightning fast reflexes, you will still get destroyed.

Parry is a joke. You can have perfect timing and it won’t matter because every other attack from half of the NPC‘s are unblockable. So get used to just getting beaten around. I just don’t understand how they got so much right and managed to completely ruin this game with the combat system in place. All they had to do was make this game fun. But instead they made it feel like detention.

Not to mention, they promised us all these different worlds we could explore, but you end up getting a total of five. Five different levels. Wow. And there aren’t any extra things to do after you beat the game either. You just get to go collect more stuff. I guess they think we all want to replay this mess on a harder difficulty? I would rather slam my fingers in a car door. Not even kidding. In the end, the game has zero replayability. They let you go explore and all that after you beat the story, but you don’t even want to. Because every level in this game feels like a huge chore. No fast travel, mobs respawn at every rest, etc. If they had taken their ability to capture the magic and actually make this an open world adventure with fun combat, this game would’ve been one of the best. Instead, we get this. Oh well. I’ve beaten it and I’m honestly glad I don’t have to play it anymore. Which gives me mixed feelings. Because I really want to keep playing a fun SW game. I really thought this was going to offer more than it did.

On the One S (and the OG Xbox One) this game is an unmitigated disaster. Dynamic resolution frequently drops to 540p and it STILL cannot maintain anything close to a stable framerate. This matters more for this game than others because the entire concept of the combat revolves around timing. Timely dodges and parries are mandatory to be successful yet the constant frame rate drops and game freezes fight you every step of the way. On open areas on the planets of Zeffo and Kashyyyk, I would be lucky if I was AVERAGING 20fps during multi-enemy combat.

This ruins boss fights as well. Without spoilers, one boss fight later on Zeffo stands as a prime example. It was a 1v1 fight in a small circular cave with no overwhelming effects or outdoor draw distance to speak of. The boss wasn't terribly difficult, the attacks and timing were easily identified. And yet every time said boss would begin one of the evade attacks -- causing the boss to glow red -- the Xbox One S would inexplicably stutter just long enough to completely throw off the evade timing. The boss wasn't the hardest thing in that fight -- the console's inability to perform was. I tried moving the game from a standard external drive to the internal drive, I tried moving the game to an external SSD drive... neither made any difference and the issue persisted.

If all you have is a base Xbox One S, don't bother. Just don't. You'll spend more time frustrated with frame drops, game stutters, in-action freezing while it loads assets, and horrible resolution than you will with any game mechanic. Just wait until next generation when the game will be backward compatible and can perform decently.

It does feel like Uncharted, except in Uncharted I feel more like a Jedi, BECAUSE I'M NOT FALLING BECAUSE THE CONTROLS TRY TO BE WAY TOO INTERACTIVE, Right stick to sprint, which has a lag so sometimes you think you should sprint, like in Modern Warfare or Death Stranding, but in this game... it's like a glitch lag... first couple times I had to get a running start I thought I was wrong about left stick being what is used to initiate that. I'm on an XBox One X too... then there is the whole needing to press left trigger to stay hanging on to grated walls or something... and like you stick automatically for a weirdly ling time, then EA has code turn on to check if you are holding L2... like to give you time to do the right combos of controls... but sorry, I'll binge this game at some point, but this game does require you to stop all other games so you get a hang of the more involved controls, with some weird button mapping, compared to like, Force Unleashed 1&2; which I played through both of. Level design is lazy and repetitive, one of those keep coming back and replaying same level with new ability type of games, to add more hours without actually adding real content to gameplay.
Combat is a dark souls wanna be but it's not implemented well, you have repetitive boring combat against opponents who can deflect ur FORCE poowrrs and shrug off ur melee as easily so it turns into a boring counter hit combat vs them...overall not bad and you'll enjoy it, just play it on gamepass/EA access or get it on a deep sale.

Hopping and jumping from ledges to cliffs and running on the wall and then jumping. It can get really frustrating/boring/annoying at times, because I think there are just too much of it.
One of the most basic Jedi skill, the higher jump/ spin jump call it whatever doesn't even get available until well deep into the game, I'd say 3/4 way and this would be a crucial skill to get, much more important than force push or pull.
Bad camera angles can also be annoying. It's not uncommon to get stuck at a place with the camera is behind and there is a rock wall, and you can't see what you are doing while 3-4 enemies are whacking at you. Sometimes I felt like throwing my controller away and just stop playing this game, because of that.
Also I say, the Jedi powers in this game are just so basic and I don't think I ever felt I was becoming a powerful Jedi, but more like these skills are crucial that I am not gonna get murdered. The main character always feel underpowered when facing the tougher enemies and bosses, it's always just defending and trying to land some lucky shots.
The game is also unfinished. Getting stuff from crates doesn't make much sense, unless you want to change your outfit and the color of your spaceship. It feels so unfinished, it feels like they wanted to have something done with these crate items, but instead they ended up just visual stuff, no impact on gameplay. Why modify my lightsaber with different colors and handles if 99% of the time I can't see it, beside the color of the laser?
Anyway, the game is fun for a while, although it could get boring or annoying, doing the same thing over and over, like the last part of the game, I just wanted to finish it and be done with it already, although I was kinda annoyed by scripted events and pushing the right button at the right time etc..that felt gimmicky and unnecessary. If you're a Star Wars fan, give it a shot, but if you never liked Tomb Raider kinda jumping around and hate dying over and over because falling into cliffs or the boss' pattern needs to be learned first, then I'd say try it out first with a friend' console etc, before throwing $60 at it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has the recipe to be the best game of 2019, but just falls short. It borrows from Uncharted, Soulsborne, and Metroid Prime games, but doesn’t do anything exceptionally well.

I’ll start with the most important thing, the combat, which it borrows from Soulsborne. At first it’s really fun, but quickly becomes cumbersome later in the game, particularly when you are out up against, 3, 4, 5 and sometimes 6 enemies at a time. You’ll constantly find yourself getting pummeled, unable to attack. You constantly find yourself taking blows, despite the fact you are dodging them.

Exploration is the next element that is heavily borrowed, from the Uncharted games. Uncharted is known for its exploration. In this game, exploration is okay, but there’s not much to really explore. You’ll cling to walls, ropes, and they like, but you’ll find yourself falling to senseless deaths instead of being amazed by the exploration.

Thirdly, the level design, which is heavily borrowed from the Metroid Prime games. The level designs are the most impressive and least shooting offer of the game, but even then the levels don’t hold a candle to the design you see in Metroid Prime, Soulsborne games, and they like.

All in all, rent it, burn through it in a weekend, and move on. There’s not much to do here beyond completing the story. There’s not much customization, and there’s enough skill points to max out every skill in the game, leaving very little reason to carefully think about your character build.

I don't have too many complaints. One is the texture pop-in is absolutely horrendous, please fix. Also your attacks are very long and drawn out, and you aren't able to cancel them, so you are left exposed if you strike even a moment to early. And lastly, some of the climbing sections felt very spotty with their hit detection.

The lightsaber customisation is unreal too, you can change everything about Cals lightsaber, from colour to individual segments of the Saber, and (this can maybe be seen as a spoiler but it’s an item you find exploring) You can find a duel blades lightsaber attachment changing Cals fighting style completely and the way you need to play completely, which adds so much more. The exploration is great too, kind of like charted, fun and addictive also.

Now sadly, on to the negatives; Sometimes I’m put off but some of the Human faces, particularly Cere, something about it seems unpolished, wether that be animation or Mocap or whatever it’s not massive though. I’ve found sometimes the lighting can be a bit off making the game look worse than it actually is. I wish the lightsaber had proper physics like in the Jedi Knight games, I.E. if your lightsaber touches a wall it burnt a hole in it and I wish we could cut the arms off storm troopers but that’s minor too. The game is a little unoriginal, which to me is fine It still plays and fits so well in starwars. The characters seem really rushed, I know I’ll learn more about them as I play more but I felt as if I could identify as Cal at first because of how fast things escalated, that’s really the main issue for me at the moment.
Over all great game by respawn, hope EA sees how much people love it and will continue with single player starwars games.

I may just not be good at this type of games, but after playing and dying a lot, I had to switch the difficulty gradually to "Story mode" (lowest available), and now the game just does not feel right at all. A lot of technical issues on XBox One X in 4K - very frequent frame drops, visual artefacts, including with lightsaber! The lightsaber looks quite bad when those artifacts pop-in. Certain character models are just horrendous (I cannot decide if she is supposed to be a human or some other race...). The story so far (I am on the second planet) is not captivating and rather lame.

On a positive note, the game has made me want to come back to TOR.

Update (increased the score from 4 to 5): played it more over the weekend. Apparently, my original frustration with game difficulty was due to a bad selection of the second planet to go to. I now play on the second easy difficulty and it feel better, still, you never feel like a true Jedi in this game. New skills help a bit and you can feel the progress, but levels/planets can be quite frustrating. Level design is quite complex and deserves the credit, but the exploration system with hidden areas that are blocked and requires you to go back after you have aquired a new skill/ability feels like it is in place just to make the game feel longer. There is very little incentive to go back through these complex levels and fight some of the creatures again, as the combat is not "entertaining" (could not use the word engaging here, as some will definitely consider it engaging). On the combat, it is awkward and clunky, but could be Xbox controls and the lag.

Solid entry in the Tomb Raider franchise. Lara looks and sounds a little funny and now only has a glowing sword which floats right through stuff and makes combat a bit repetitive, but these are modern times and otherwise it’s business as usual.

Gameplay wise, it combines the best elements of combat from games like; the Witcher, assassins creed, the force unleashed and dare I say a little bit of dark souls... The exploration is fantastic, it’s not quite open world but it’s definitely not linear, somewhere in between. There’s a significant amount of customisation options which is mainly focused on finding parts for your lightsaber. You can customise your spaceship and droid companion’s paint jobs which is a nice addition. The outfit customisation could be built on as the only options are your poncho material/design or main outfit colour. These are all found in chests hidden across the galaxy. I have to say I was sceptical of the game when first announced but I am now in love with it. Expand

Game looks beautiful and the story is well written. The gameplay is a fresh take for Star Wars, though is not innovative for gaming. It is quiet simular to Tomb Raider with some tombs and puzzle solving elements, which I personally didnt like as it slowed the story pacing. You land at a place, receive some vague motivation to "go to X location", and just follow the narrow path of storm troopers to where you're supposed to go. Press X to kill storm trooper, hold B to deflect all lasers shot at you. The Star Wars universe has rarely felt so empty. Much as the film universe peaked decades ago, the video game universe peaked with KOTOR. I don't know how KOTOR's slow-paced, janky combat system feels more compelling than Fallen Order's; but it does. I think Star Wars has stopped being a foundation for great story-telling, and has become a straight-jacket. Every mission in Titanfall 2 was unique and memorable, whether stalking the canyons to find batteries for BT, wall running through an operating manufactory, leaping back and forth through two timelines, or flying through the air in a massive helicopter chase. Every mission in Fallen Order just feels like a reskinned version of another. Respawn should return to Titanfall and continue to improve and build out that universe. Expand

And after having beaten it on Grandmaster difficulty and earned every achievement within a single playthrough...

I can say that Disney, flexing it's corporate muscles by forcing EA to publish a single player focused game (since Battlefront 1 and 2 were flops), managed to give one of the better action adventure if not better Star Wars titles of the last decade... If not more.

While under Kotor and the Jedi Outcast/Jedi Academy games (to myself at least), which hold a high station for me due to customization and nostalgia - plus, being great games in their execution, Respawn Entertainment's Jedi: Fallen Order is a solid, enjoyable romp through space. With a pretty decent combat system that's enhanced by force powers and unlockable skills.

While it can be annoying (especially on Grandmaster difficulty) because of the way that they strategically arrange enemies with complementary skill sets, and the game is still new and buggy here and there. In just these last couple days they've been dropping patches and fixes that help fix things like long load times or texture flickering.

I'd like to move on from the raw meat of the gameplay however:

Jedi: Fallen Order also touches on some pretty hard subjects, rather tastefully in the relatively short time it has with us; loss - death of friends and loved ones. Failure and the mindset of defeat it creates. And being on a constant narrative backfoot...

It leans a lot of what I think is successful on compelling characters, while potentially possessing cliches - the cliches of the Star Wars universe are used to great effect in creating believable, realistic characters that exist in a world that feels lived in, and voice acted brilliantly (almost all the time) with some pretty on-point mocap, to the point some quiet scenes with just facial expressions or eye flickering manage to convey quite a bit of emotion.

It got to the point even I was getting misty eyed during various scenes - especially those that involved the darker subject matter.

If you've been putting this off because it's an "EA" game, or because it's "Just another white, male, protagonist" I think that you should of course - air on the side of caution, but certainly experience what this game has to offer us.

This game, despite having the stamp of "EA" on it - and seems to have been sent out to die to fit EA's "Gamer's aren't wanting Single Player narratives" similarly to Titanfall 2, this game - just as with the aforementioned title, feels much more like a Metroidvania Respawn Entertainment Title. EA has made it clear, they want live service games that can make them constant money, I believe that the critical and commercial success of this game has shown that the gaming world, if not just the Star Wars fans therein - will hopefully show all these companies who "know" what we want, that they're not correct - and that they should be LISTENING.

The combat is complicated enough to keep in interesting but not as hard as something like Dark Souls. The enemy types keep coming as new with the last new enemy type being pretty close to the end of the game which helps keep it interesting because you have to fight each enemy type differently. The bosses are difficult enough to make you die once or a few times depending on the difficulty until you learn there combos. They change combos throughout the fight so when you get to the end they'll switch it up again and can catch you off guard. The lightsaber battles are probably the best fights though because who doesn't like a lightsaber battle. The story is strong and keeps you invested in the characters even the character who comes in a lot later. The story is probably the thing that makes this game so good in so many ways. The graphics are beautiful no matter what you're playing on, the environments you get to explore and the attention to detail there is is just magnificent. The sound is also good. Not just the ambient sound and sound of blaster fire and all the other sounds that come with wielding a lightsaber against an enemy, but also the soundtrack which adds to so many scenes and really adds to the tension of a fight or the way it adds to the drama of the game. It's all in all such a great game and really shows what happens when EA let's a developer do what they need to do to make a great story. Expand

What kind of fireworks will be released towards the end, really strong. Up front, I haven't played Tomb Raider, Uncharted or Dark Souls so far, the game was inspired by all of them.

    Gameplay
That's why the gameplay was a refreshing experience for me and was really fun. Sometimes it is a bit imprecise, but that didn't really bother me.

The fights feel unbelievably awesome as the progress continous, all the "combos" you can pull off, coupled with interesting opponent patterns and the right party system, strong.

Finally there were puzzles to solve again, most of which are quite simple. Coming back to old planets, discovering chests, paths, etc. also motivated me incredibly. I also achieved relatively high exploration percentages in each case. The abbreviations were chosen very well for this, a travel system to the checkpoints would have made it too easy. By the way, the checkpoints are chosen very fairly (I played on the second level of difficulty.

    Atmosphere / graphics / performance
You really get a lot of Star Wars on offer here, especially connoisseurs recognize some allusions here, which made my heart leap. The mystique and gloom in some areas was strongly staged, but there was more to it than that.

Visually a stunner, at least mostly in terms of performance, there are a few drops in graphics mode, but found the "60fps" mode really bad to be honest.

The music used discreetly but correctly. One or the other piece can be heard immediately.

    story
I'm satisfied, although more depth would have been nice, but then there are some surprises on offer. Respawn has created a nice Star Wars experience here.

    Conclusion
Finally EA, with great help from Respawn we finally got another great experience in the Star Wars universe, a must for every fan. I am happy and now wish for a great RPG (with a crew) in Star Wars guise and the latest technology.
    Subjectively 10/10 Objectively I fluctuate between 8/10 9/10 but opt for 9/10.

May the force be with you.

This is an amazing Star Wars game, but just a fairly servicable game overall. If you're just playing it for the lightsaber combat, you'll definitely get your money's worth because there's plenty of it and it handles it better than any previous Star Wars game. This game has some serious white-knuckling combat. It often made me furious, but it was exhilirating nonetheless.

This game has some serious white-knuckling combat. It often made me furious, but it was exhilirating nonetheless.

But I do feel like they put all their eggs in one basket, because everything else is just kinda okay. The story is pretty awesome with some great motion-capture performances from a relatively small cast of characters. I love having this story that's neatly wedged between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, where the architecture of both trilogies are prevalent. I do think the narrative is pretty frontloaded though and drags by the end. That could be in conjunction with my constant deaths making me grow increasingly impatient, but I also do think the 2nd half of the game has a lot of "go here, now go here, now go back here." All of the best set-pieces are in the beginning, which I would say peaks at the Kashyyk sequence, and after that I was ready for the game to wrap it up. The finale is suitably epic though, and really makes me wish the story could've flourished in between.

I'd say the worst part of this game is how the gameplay commits to being a jack of all trades, and ends up being average in everything. The puzzles are very shallow clones of Zelda and the Arkham games. The parkour mechanics very clearly inspired by Uncharted and the Tomb Raider games, but lacking the excitement and grip that those ones have. Both these elements end up making exploration feel strangely empty, and very rarely do the environments feel naturally designed. Every room feels like the next sequence, rather than discovering an actual world you can believe and desire exploring.

I'd say it's required playing for a Star Wars fan, just seeing how this story fits into the mythos is satisfying enough. But I would say the videogame itself is just average. I'm already not a fan of these Dark Souls combat type games and shoehorning games types that I like didn't enrich the experience at all. And I feel even someone who is a fan of those games has played better versions of it. I mostly enjoyed playing it, but I probably won't ever revisit it again. I'll definitely play the sequel though, as I'm excited to see how they improve it!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is overrated and hyped up even on EAPlay. The story is fine, kinda uninspired and on par for star wars stories. The gameplay is where this game starts to fail, when I wasn't bored by long load times, long drawn out cutscenes of characters just staring at each other, I found myself frustrated at the "puzzley" nature of this game.

When I installed this game I expected a fun adventure action game similar to Force Unleashed, instead I got a boring, unoriginal, star wars skinned version of uncharted/tomb raider. If you like puzzle games and star wars then this is for you! If you like playing a powerful Jedi who can flip around mowing down any and all enemies in his/her path than purchase or replay Force Unleashed.

This game is boring plain and simple. The story takes no risks and neither does this game play. I expected a much more exhilirating Jedi experience not sitting around getting my ass kicked by lizards and the like. The animals in this game are harder to kill than the people and most the game I have spent trying to figure out how to navigate the levels. Confusing layouts, no clear direction, but very harsh limitations wtf were the level designers thinking.

Save your money on this one and just go play force unleashed instead.

There were subtle things too which made the game feel unfinished. Such as when underwater and opening chests the same animation plays on land, which involves your droid entering and shuffling around. Except in water it doesn't. After which your character comes out with a witty (repeated) one liner - that makes no sense because he's underwater with a "breather" equipped.

Even the credits weren't traditional Star Wars themed. Music overall was dull, you didn't include any of the original Star Wars soundtrack?

That need redoing from scratch because the physics is just messed up. You can swing off one rope and get thrown a mad distance and then another time you let go only to drop right away. Drives me nuts. Refilling your stimpacks also refreshes all enemies which is confusing. It’s the one mechanic I hate with a vengeance. Respawn them when you return to a planet, not every time you loot some stims. Imagine Fallout where every chest spawns the enemies back. It just doesn’t work. Force Unleashed is better than this. Combat is better. Story is too. And Vader isn’t like a hyperactive trash talker Like Second Sister is. But that’s my opinion of an older gamer Expand

Beautiful world building, the mechanics are perfect, you have all the time the feeling that you are a Jedi, and that feeling is great. The story so far so good. If you like good action games, you are gone like it a lot, if you are an Star wars fan you will love it with your heart. May the force be with you.

Do you remember of the past glory days of the Prince of Persia saga during the ps2, xbox original and gamecube era?
SWTFO is EXACTLY what a prince of persia game should be on the current gen. SW has more fights and little less acrobatics, but that is the only thing that really separates both games.

Awesome game. The gameplay elements are mixed and varied. I play on hard level so the game is a challenge. I was unsure when I purchased the game but I would certainly recommend.

I really liked the game. The combat is fluid and the lightsaber has weight. The stikes and blows really hit hard and it is very satisfying. I personally liked the charaters but the story was very mediocre. The charaters talk and exposition is rampant. However, the charaters are enough to hold the story together. However, the charaters are enough to hold the story together. There were some glitches I encountered but none that were game breaking. The bosses are the weakest element. I wish there was more variety and there weren't as many bosses that were beefed up enemies. The enemies are also lack luster in some areas, because they lack a variety of moves. But despite these flaws, I can forgive them because the combat is amazing its it's just pure fun. Respawn has yet to make a bad game! Expand

Way overrated because of Star Wars fans. This was clearly a copy-cat of various other games but of course in an extremely bad quality. This was clearly a fast money grab by capitalizing on an established fandom, do not waste your money on trash like this.

It is probably the best Star Wars Game..

But it's not a good game. the game starts pretty good as you're not playing Kratos the indestructible Hero.. after 2 hours you did nothing else than a mediocre souls like combat, wall running and jumping from a to b. after 6 Hours you fight against the same 3 groups of enemies for like 50 times filled with riddles difficult like playing

But it's not a good game.

the game starts pretty good as you're not playing Kratos the indestructible Hero..
after 2 hours you did nothing else than a mediocre souls like combat, wall running and jumping from a to b.

after 6 Hours you fight against the same 3 groups of enemies for like 50 times filled with riddles difficult like playing memory with 4 cards.

and that's the biggest problem. Planets are just a Sandbox filled with chests and collectibles.. and very dumb AI opponents.
Oh! There's a Scout! he does not see me yet because i am 3 meters away from him while he looks me in straight in the eyes while i am jumping and sprinting in a circle.
learn improved Dash from the mediocre skill tree with fillers instead of real skills. and all you have to do is holding attack while running and you're one hitting everything.
if there are 2 enemies, do it twice.

The Difficulty levels are the same like old call of duty games.
the AI does not get smarter or uses different ways to hide/cover or attack. No... you deal less damage and they deal more. that's it.

In my Opinion the game is overhyped to oblivion because it's called Star Wars and "journalists" were paid to advertise it as the ultimate singleplayer experience.
in the end you get a mix of platformers, climbing, weak souls like dodge and hit combat and a giant load of collect 10 million different skins and collectibles that you'll forget before you see what you actually picked up.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is one of the best Star Wars games I’ve ever played and one of the best “Soulslike” games out there, surprising as that may sound.

As uneven and unpolished as it is, Fallen Order is still the best game to emerge from EA's stewardship of the Star Wars license, even if that's to damn it with faint praise. [Issue#340, p.98]

Jedi Fallen Order is one of the best games in the Star Wars franchise and one of the best games of 2019. It has some sore spots, but the story, characters, worlds, and combat more than make up for its shortcomings. Fans of Star Wars will love it. Fans of action/adventure games will have a fantastic time. It is great to finally see Respawn branch out and get a chance to craft something they clearly have a passion for. This is not a game to be missed and gives me hope for the future of the series.
