The first episode of The Walking Dead Final Season is here. A.J. is all grown up when he and Clementine find a new group. They have to slay zombies while they try to find a place to live.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season is off to a fantastic start. Telltale looks to have finally returned to true form here, serving up a well paced story that’s thrilling, engaging and consistently tense. Credit also needs to be given to the writing and the voice acting, which is the best we’ve seen from Telltale for quite some time. If this quality is maintained, the series is certainly set to go out with a bang.

A well-done continuation. But if they kill Clem at the end, this score reverts to Zero. [Nov 2018, p.88]

The new setting and cast feel unique and exciting for longtime fans, but those same fans may find the story retreading old plot points too often. More involved gameplay moments and some presentation changes make this Telltale game feel different than the rest as well, like a really cool effect that makes backgrounds seem like they're pulled right out of Kirkman's comics. One particular character arc pushes the limits of believability, which somewhat hurts an otherwise riveting final scene, but overall the premiere is worth jumping into for fans looking to finish what they started over a half-decade ago.

Fans of the series will likely enjoy the first episode, as it builds off years’ worth of investment. However, those that expected something that tied into A New Frontier may be somewhat disappointed, as this first episode offers many more questions with very little in the way of answers.

A slow start, but firm for this last season. The dynamic between AJ and Clem and the new additions are the highlights in an episode that is too narrative-focused at the expense of gameplay.

An uninspiring beginning to Clementine’s final story but there’s enough potential in the plot, and the more cinematic visuals, to leave hope that it’ll end better than it started.

As it's seems and it's headed to - and, God, I hope I'm right -, thankfully this season won't be the disaster that "A New Frontier" was, giving the whole comeback of that atmosphere of great character and plot building mixed with the feeling of both uncertainty and "unexpectation" that creeps behind us throughout a new episode/season.
