Trailblazers is entertaining when playing against the CPU, but best when played with real people. The A.I. is no match for other competitors' emergent strategies, and you can't put a plan into action very well with it either.

Trailblazers is undeniably fun, well developed and unique. Its distinct design and innovative paint-to-boost gameplay mechanic proves that a simple idea can go a very long way. With some AI issues to the side, this is one cooperative-specific racing experience that shouldn’t be overlooked. Whether or not its online community will flourish remains to be seen, but given its alluring foundation alone, I hold hope that it will.

Trailblazers is a race-and-paint game for children. With its smooth, consistent gameplay and simplistic challenges, a group of toddlers could be content for hours. Just don't be surprised when the 12 year old is reaching for Grand Theft Auto instead.

Thanks to colorful cel-shading and the mechanics, Trailblazers makes a difference in the genre. Although it has several shortcomings, it offers a very good experience.

Trailblazers is a hugely interesting concept clearly borrowed from Splatoon, but its execution here is lagging far behind. Weirdly though, I feel the developers have done their absolute best with the concept, but it just hasn’t worked well at all, especially in the solo mode. This then has a knock-on effect for the online lobbies – because no one is willing to try it because of the disappointing single player.

As far as racing games go I thought I’d seen them all over the year’s, but Trailblazers made me realise that I hadn’t seen them all. TheAs far as racing games go I thought I’d seen them all over the year’s, but Trailblazers made me realise that I hadn’t seen them all. The uniqueness of this game will no doubt breath some life into a genre that has slipped down in recent times and I can’t be more happy because racing games are something that I really enjoy. The biggest aspect of this game is without a doubt its colour mechanic and this mechanic is what makes the game stand out from the other games in the genre. Colouring in has never been so much fun and the most impressive thing of all is that it fits in with the racing pretty much flawlessly. Obviously the most important aspect of a game like this is how the controls perform, and thankfully they’re perfect. Everything about them remains fluid and responsive throughout and not once did they cause me to become frustrated. In fact the only frustrating moments I had with this game is down to the AI. Don’t get me wrong the AI isn’t terrible it’s just that there are a couple of problematic things they do, but I was able to look past these issues especially when I was playing with my friends. You can play this game in co-op, online and on your own so in terms of content there is more than enough to keep you going for quite a while. Hopefully the online multiplayer takes off because it is a little on the empty side at the moment but that isn’t too much of a problem at the moment because the amount of variety that’s present in the game makes you forget about this. I’m not exaggerating when I say that all areas of the game have a huge amount of variety. There is variety in literally everything and this makes racing all the different cars on all the different tracks fun and enjoyable at all times and because of this boredom will not rear its ugly head anytime soon. In fact the only thing that rears its ugly head is the technichal issues the game suffers with. Thankfully though none of these issues are game-breaking, but I would like to see a patch implemented to sort them out because they can provide you with a few frustrating moments. One of my favourite things about the game is the presentation that they’ve gone with. Both the visuals and sound design in my opinion take the game to another level and it was nice to see them combine together so well. At the end of the day if you’re a fan of arcade racers then you will thoroughly enjoy Trailblazers. It’s taken things from the classic games of the past and added its own unique concepts which in turn makes this game accessible to a whole host of gamers and for that reason it gets a big recommendation from me. A Nice Surprise
Trailblazers is a futuristic arcade racer than can be played with up to 4 players local and online
This game features 8 characters with their own unique stats and 10 tracks that can be raced forwards and backwards
This is a racing game all about team work and making your own boost pads.
Think wipeout meets Splatoon. and I even got bits of an ssx vibe from playing this game…
The great soundtrack was the first thing I noticed. the game sounds like it was plucked right from the ps2 giving me those nostalgic racing feels.
There are 3 different modes here,
Story Mode Custom Race and online race. unfortunately, this game suffers the same fate all competitive modes do in indie games. in that it’s a ghost town, which is a shame because there is potential here with this games mechanics to make this a really fun co op game.
Playing solo in story mode is almost as fun as this games potential though.
Here you’re introduced to all 8 of this games characters and you’re given 3 tasks in each race as these characters and to progress the story you must complete one of these 3 tasks. so, this isn’t a straight up racing game all of the time which I appreciate…
this is about strategy. every race has to be tackled in a different way to accomplish your goal.
every character has their own colors. though through most of the campaign you’ll have a team mate..
your job is to use your stored paint and paint the track your teems color, this will give you speed boost..
its painting your own boost pads on the track..
again playing with real people this offers ton of strategy potential..
every track has multiple branching paths…
you and your partner could take the road less travel and dump your paint making what seems like the long way a now shortcut..
you can also use your paint to attack and spin out opponents by shooting the paint ahead of you and you can cover their paints stopping their boost for the next lap.
and the paint Is on a cool down so that it actually means something.
the racing is so fast and fun, I loved the tracks despite them not really feeling memorable to me..
I don’t feel like a ton of effort went into creating the world around the tracks..
    the tracks themselves are fine..
but none of them are brought to life..
My biggest issue with this game though is how aggressive partner ai is..
and no I don’t mean against the other team..
your team mate is aggressive towards you as well..
I was blocked and slowed down by my own ai partner numerous times throughout my journey of this games campaign..
the nuisance is mild.. but its still there..
The ai definitely doesn’t understand team work.
Overall Trailblazers is a worthy pick up for those missing the ps2 era arcade racers..
the game is a bit frustrating at times due to the poor team work from ai, but is still challenging in all of the right ways, and fun,
    I give Trailblazers
    a 6.5/10
