When you play a good game, you always have this itch in the back of your head that keeps you wanting to play it even though you’re doing other things. It keeps on irritating you until you pick up that controller again. It’s very rare for me to experience that when it comes to titles but Tropico 5 is one of them. It’s just that good and addictive.
Tropico 5: Penultimate Edition gives you new maps, and hours upon hours of gameplay. It's the next version of the same fun city builder that we've been seeing for years.
Been a fan of the Tropico series since 3 and 4 on the xbox 360. This game is just as good and with the many eras expands on the great game. Add in the DLC and you'll have hours and hours of fun on challenging maps.
Tropico games are always fun to play and will keep your attention for hours. Tropico 5 is probably the best game in the series and although the controls are better on pc and some DLC is not included it's still well worth a look.
With no game like Tropico 5: Penultimate Edition available for Xbox One, fans of the genre should definitely give the game a look. It makes for a good summer game as you build and develop an island colony during your downtime and prepare for your presidential run in 2020.
Ideally a strategy game such as Tropico 5 would give the player the choice of either a game or player directed playing experience. Tropico 5: Penultimate Edition at first blush gives the player more but once you start playing it, you realize it has also taken away something a segment of its fan base enjoyed before – freedom to play the game they want.
Tropico 5 on consoles is a great port. It's a faithful recreation of the PC classic and a welcome addition to the scant city builders console players can enjoy.
Although it's easy to pick up, Tropico 5 is a deep and complex strategy title which keeps things interesting by throwing ever-changing challenges in to the story structure to mix things up.
Don’t expect any revolutionary changes to the two year old PC release. But with added content, optimized controls and a solid core throughout you’ll find yourself spending more time on these islands than originally expected.
This game is very addictive and at times frustrating, I would definitely recommend playing the tutorial (if this is your first tropico experience), Once you jump into the game there is a myriad of ways to build your island paradise and govern your people, and more options open up through research. There are a few issues that annoy me: the menu screens are confusing, the music gets tiresome, and it takes years to research some necessities (tanks, embassies, and dry docks) you're literally an hour into a scenario before these become available. Also the road construction is tedious in some areas and the battles seem like random luck. But otherwise, I'm loving this game and recommend it to anyone who's into sims.
I'm new to Tropico, so I will try to describe it to others who may be new to the franchise. To me it's an interesting mix of SimCity and Civilization.
It's like SimCity, with less building options. And Civilization with less military options. You build up your military units, but you don't have much control once the fighting starts. Your military can do serious damage to your foes government or finances. It also has political factions to work with. Like Civilization you research tech government options. They throw in political comedy and plenty of quest, with some subtle financial complexities and you end up with a solid game. It also some solid South American style music if your into that.
So if your looking for a city builder for XB1 this is probably your best choice. It has many options for difficulty choices. You can also play co-op, PVE or PVP online. It's competitive stuff can be for points or include military tactics. It also has a sand box, campaign and mission modes. This game is a solid city builder, and fills the void while we are hoping Civilization 6 eventually makes it to console.
EL PRESEDENTE IS BACK ONCE AGAIN!!! He might be back, but the game took a step back. The visuals were improved, but the gameplay didn't. I dont know why they just didn't keep doing what they were doing with Tropico 4. Tropico 5 seemed watered down and limited compared to 4. I still had fun playing this game because, well, it is fun and the narrator is funny. This is still better than Sim City.
SummaryYou, as El President, will first take control of the infamous island of Tropico during early colonial times and then guide it through the centuries as the world changes and moves ever forward. You must tackle the changing needs of your people, as well as opposing governments and factions, and thus lay the foundations for your own dynasty...
