Wulverblade is a beautiful evolution of a classic genre. In nearly every way it takes the side-scrolling beat 'em ups of yesteryear and reimagines them for the high definition, story-driven gaming landscape in which we now reside. The captivating artwork never loses its luster, and it's aided by a strong audio experience, engrossing combat that demands you play smartly, and a fascinating mix of true history and folklore. With very few caveats, Wulverblade is an exceptional game that no genre fan should miss.

It is hugely obvious that a whole load of love has been thrown into this game over the course of development, and whilst that alone shouldn’t be the single reason you buy it, when you combine that commitment, that passion and that love with brilliant gameplay mechanics, fantastic visuals and a story that just keeps on unfolding, you’ll get a great outcome.

Wulverblade is brutal, gory, and gorgeous in its design. It comes packed with collectibles and unlocks that constantly rewards the player with fascinating insights. Putting some difficulty inconsistencies to the side, fans of side-scrolling brawlers will be thrilled with what’s on offer. The game is well designed, diverse, and above all else it’s hard to put down.

Wulverblade is a good take on the classic brawler genre, telling a compelling story about bretons against roman army of the 9th Legion.

If you like a modern take on Golden Axe and can enjoy the comic design, you’ll get a decent amount of fun out of this brawler.

Wulverblade surprises in just how much fun it is. The best thing is you do not have to spend a bunch of quarters every time you play.

It's almost educational with its retelling of events and plethora of notes and videos giving you information about items and places of interest. You can tell a lot of care has gone into making the game, which is also evidenced by the beautiful visuals and accomplished voice acting. For a downloadable title, it's got great production values.

Unfortunately there has been many decent beat ’em up’s in recent year’s, but thankfully Wulverblade has made me realise why I enjoy this specific genre so much. The gameplay is absolutely fantastic and it never gets dull, which is great. Everything about the combat works flawlessly and whilst the difficulty can be a problem at times it still didn’t stop me from jumping straight back into the game. Something that really impressed me with Wulverblade was the story it delivers. The story is a wonderful tale and it does a great job of keeping you hooked throughout, and a big part of that is down to the writing and the fantastic voice actors. In terms of content the game has more than enough to keep you occupied. There is also an abundance of unlockables for you to collect and collecting all of these gives the game quite a lot of replay value. An important thing in a game like this is the maps that are included, and thankfully they get this spot on. There are an array of maps for you to battle on and each map has a lot of variety going for it, so it was a pleasure trying each map out. The game doesn’t really suffer with many problems and my only real complaint is that the small technical issues can take away from the game’s charm, but thankfully these issues don’t happen very often. The presentation side of the game is absolutely perfect in my opinion. Visually the game has an art style that’s packed full of charm and they really do make the gameplay stand out. The sound design is also fantastic and the immersion levels due to the sound design can be off the charts at times. At the end of the day Wulverblade has brought back a lot of fond memories for me and it made me realise just how much I love this genre. They’ve done this by integrating each different mechanic perfectly and there really isn’t anything bad about the game, which is great. Fans of the beat ’em up style will fall in love with this immediately and with the amount of content the game offers you, you won’t be getting bored for quite a while and ultimately it gets a massive thumbs up from me.
