The answer is Armed & Dangerous, a game that gives you a ragtag crew with an impossible mission: Pull off the biggest heist of all time in the middle of a war. All you have to do is battle your way through dastardly enemies, giant war machines, and an army of psychopathic robots. But don't worry; your team has plenty of ammo and absolutely no common sense. Planet Moon set out to create a game that was pure, visceral fun and it did just that. You can sit down and play for ten minutes or ten hours and still be enthralled.

The cutscenes are hilarious. They are rude, crude and to some, maybe even a little shocking.
  3. The collected cutscenes are funnier 100 times over than an episode of "Friends" and on par with "Monty Python" for being off-kilter.
  4. A large portion of the enjoyment comes from the same type of British humour that featured in ‘Giants’; it’s certainly not an easy thing to develop a game that manages to make you laugh, however this one certainly succeeds.
  5. Just your average shooter. It doesn't really offer any innovation in the genre and the graphics and audio are rather plain.

The open-ended level design - and especially the nifty fortress-defense stages - made for many moments of shooter Zen. [Jan 2004, p.154]

A relentless conveyor belt of cannon fodder ensures the carnage is kept at a suitably frantic rate, yet with every wave of cookie-cutter thrown to the mercy of your crosshair, repetition becomes an increasingly prevalent factor. [Mar 2004, p.116]

While the graphics are a little rough, the humorous cut scenes really propel you along: encouraging you to get through the game. The humor is also present in the, admittedly shallow, weapon selection. Later in the game there are several jetpac levels spicing things up a little. A great game, if you're not interested in buying it definitely watch the cut scenes on youtube. Expand

A&D is probably the most quality third person shooter I've played on the XBox, with the exception of MechAssault. The story elements are definitely original. The action is tried-and-true 3ps, but with a few extra elements not found anywhere else (jetpacks, black-hole grenades, and the landshark gun). The biggest downfall is the graphics, which are still better than some of LucasArts' other endeavors. If you're into this genre, its definitely worth picking up. Expand

Armed and Dangerous: 8/10: While certainly far from perfect Armed and Dangerous avoids quite a few of the pitfalls that have encumbered recentArmed and Dangerous: 8/10: While certainly far from perfect Armed and Dangerous avoids quite a few of the pitfalls that have encumbered recent 3rd person shooters and it has a Shrek meets Monty Python sense of humor to boot.

What pitfalls you ask? Well there are two in particular; irritating and boring weapons and frustrating platforming. There are three main weapons in Armed and Dangerous. A main machine gun that is so darn effective and auto targets so well that it almost makes all the other weapons useless. A rocket launcher that is to effective and can make the later levels easier than they should have been. (Great for shooting snipers and just a trek back to the pub for a reload. Yes you reload at a pub,) And the Landshark gun which releases a great white shark that somewhat slowly eats you opponents in a hilarious manner.

The Landshark gun is loads of fun. So much so in fact that I often found myself risking my neck to use it rather than a more appropriate firearm. (It is however pretty good at taking out machine gun nests.) The rest of the weapons are either boilerplate (sniper rifle), useless (mortar) or silly and useless (instant Black Hole).

As for platforming there is none, only some simple jet-pack scenes to break up the monotony. The game also pretends to have squad elements as you control three characters two indirectly. Ignoring this and simply fighting with your main guy is highly recommended.

While the cut scenes are funny and very tasteless (and in one cannibal scene borderline racist) I was more impressed on the voice work during the fighting itself. It never seemed to get old (How rare is that.)

The graphics and gameplay get better as the game progresses and new weapons become available. An overall fun romp I find myself still picking up Armed and Dangerous after completing the game. Gotta love that Landshark gun.

Not sure if you need to try it in 2022.

The graphics are just a step above Half-Life 1, which is pretty much unacceptable for a game made in 2003. The gameplay is overly repetitive and gets old after a short bit of playing. However, the cutscenes are hilarious and the Shark Gun and Topsy Turvy Bomb give at least 30 minutes of pleasure. This is a game for entering cheat codes in, not one for playing in full. Expand
