The generally poor response to this astoundingly bold "mainstream" movie - which frankly only looks better with age - is the reason why our multiplexes are chock-full of Marvel movies. You reap what you sow, people.

A very intense and captivating psychological thriller. Often, films like this get lambasted when the subject matter is stronger than critics anticipate. Exploitative? Sure it is, but it's no B-movie. Joel Schumacher really doesn't show anything significant or prominent throughout "8MM". Everything's grotesque and lacks the profound air Nicholas Cage tries to present. However I admit that the film certainly did not deserve a 1.9 out of 10; its still entertaining or manageable in a way.

(Sighs) I don't know where I can go from this. The fact that it's disliked but find OK and directed by Joel Schumacher who is now doing a movie about snuff. OK. So that might be interesting for a mystery. Nicholas Cage is in the world of porn trying to verify the authenticity of a snuff(Sighs) I don't know where I can go from this. Nicholas Cage is in the world of porn trying to verify the authenticity of a snuff film. Find the guys who made the film about a girl who got killed while filming it. Once again listening to commentry from Joel Schumacher explaining why he made this and said that he might get an NC-17 rating. Boy, oh, God, do I ever get bored of this movie? Well, yeah. It's not a bad film by all means but at least it's not awful. Could be interesting enough but it just isn't enough.… Expand

I give it a low bad score, because it starts great and suspenseful, but the second half is just dumb and ruins the entire experience.
