Crowe brings the character to life by sidestepping sensationalism and building with small behavioral details.
So many things come together so beautifully in this movie based on the life of John Forbes Nash Jr. that you're likely to find yourself willing to benignly overlook its occasional biographical lapses and narrative sweetening.

A Beautiful Mind is a truly beautiful movie through its emotionally and thematically rich love story driven by the masterful brilliance of Russell Crowe's oscar deserving and Jennifer Connelly's oscar winning performances. This intensely dramatic tearjerker is a deep and meticulous study of mental illness.

Though the role might seem a real stretch for an actor who just won an Oscar for his Charlton Heston turn as Maximus in "Gladiator," he and the movie ace the test.

Howard, and the screenwriter, Akiva Goldsman, have used the book as nothing more than their jumping-off point for an erratic work of fiction that's part mystery thriller and part Hollywood schmaltz.
Crowe understands what's interesting about Nash: He's not a feel-good figure. It's a pity the same can't be said for Howard.
It's not just our emotions that are being played on here, it's not just our intelligence being insulted because of Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman's presumption that we won't have any interest in a character whom it's not always possible to like. It's John Nash's life, being turned into an Oscar machine and an easy way to jerk tears.
This film chronicles the life of American mathematician John Nash, a genius considered one of the most remarkable mathematicians of the twentieth century. I confess I did not know him until I saw the film, but I found it interesting how he tells his life, using his life's adventures to make the story more appealing to the public. Not everything the film shows is exactly true but if we except the writer's creative and narrative freedoms, the film is close enough to reality for a biopic. Russel Crowe plays the protagonist, and he does it in a generally good way. The big problem of his interpretation was the strange and somewhat forced accent he used, and that I confess I did not understand.

Very average film, Crow's performance it's hard to believe, it is definitely a good story but it was a bad selection on the actors, not saying that the ones that appear on the movie are bad actors just think they are not the best for this particular story. Slow in some parts of the movie. If you want to know Nash's biography but you don't want to read you may watch this movie but don't expect too much thrilling moments.

Even if you ignore the fact that Nash's **** was completely ignored, what about his first son who was never mentioned? The one he failed to support financially. What about his strained relationship with his wife? What about the ridiculous and non-factual introduction of his imaginary friends, which are used as a Greek chorus by director Ron Howard because he couldn't move the story along any other way. Badly filmed Hollywood whitewash.
