I was at least able to follow the plot (which is not to say it wasn't as ludicrous as any Bond film -- just that I could follow it). But most of all this movie has camp value -- it's fun to sit there and make fun of every last detail, and that redeems it quite a bit. Read full review

The fourteenth James Bond movie and last one staring Roger Moore. It is a weaker one but with a very good cast. The story starts when James Bond is send to Siberia to recover a microchip that can withstand an electromagnetic impulse (Immunity to EMP). The story starts when James Bond is send to Siberia to recover a microchip that can withstand an electromagnetic impulse (Immunity to EMP). A clue leads to Zorin Industries with its owner Max Zorin who is a respected man but under suspicion as his race horses win often against other seemingly better ones. So starts the story and I am divided. It is enjoyable but also weak. The menace is not that impressive but that can be just my opinion. However the humor and actors improve this movie a lot. The action and climax is really good. We have Rooger Moore in his final performance as James Bond (In movies as he will always remain James Bond;-). A mayor complaint was that he has gotten to old for he role. After rewatching I say that the critique is a bit stretched out but I will not completely disagree. Just as remark: He was born 1927 and for his age he performed really good. With Christopher Walken as Max Zorin we get an interesting villain. I like both the character and actor but thing they could have done more with both. Grace Jones as May Day is the first female lieutenant and has a good presence on the screen and is remarkable. I must also mention Patrick Macnee who is famous for The Avengers TV series (Not Marvel). Shorter role but fully delivers. Again Q is a fan favorite and we got good gadgets. Soundtrack wise we get a better performance than the last movies. A view to kill is in the lower tops for me. The sets and optics look good and it seems they took a lot of care. Overall this is the end of the age of Roger Moore as James Bond. It is a solid last performance. There is the age old question of Sean Connery or Roger Moore which is hard to answer. I like both actors and favor Roger Moore but think that I do Sean Connery injustice with this. Back to the verdict: I say I is worthwhile and I give a bonus for the actors and their performance.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will admit that this is a guilty pleasure for me. I really do like AVTAK and I think it works as much as it fails in some parts. Moore, despite his age, gives a good performance but is just too old for the part. Zorin and May Day are one of the best villains in the whole series for sure. The theme song is a banger, and the action scenes are great, like the firetruck chase and finale on the Golden Gate Bridge. The first half feels kind of cheap and boring, but the film really picks up during the second half.… Expand

In this film, besides the central cast inherited from the previous films and the ending of Roger Moore in the role of 007, we have a good cast of artists: Tanya Roberts plays the Bond-girl Stacey Sutton, Patrick Macnee gives life to Sir Godfrey Tibbett, Grace Jones gives life to May Day and Christopher Walken gave body and soul to mad Max Zorin. For the last time, Lois Maxwell played Miss Moneypenny, after fourteen movies giving life to M's secretary.

In this film, James Bond investigates a fraud in the world of horse racing involving Max Zorin, a powerful businessman. However, the British agent will quickly find a much more dangerous and malevolent conspiracy behind it.

This is the last film in which Roger Moore embodies the secret agent. Despite the undoubted talent, the actor was already too old for the role and it was time to pass the baton to a new generation. Nevertheless, Moore stood firm until the end, always maintained a correct posture and took his Bond until the end, with the dignity of a true British. The script could be much more convincing: it's a bit strange that Bond, an agent who already got used to save the world, was investigating such a common fraud as doping in equestrian races to, quite naturally, tripping over a global conspiracy against the mecca of technology production. And even if that were to happen, there would certainly simpler ways to achieve that than the way, contrived and complicated, chose by the villain. In any case, the film is good enough, even if not extraordinary: it entertains the audience, allows a good time and not disappoint Bond fans. Some scenes are noteworthy, especially the sequence filmed on the Golden Gate Bridge, not only by the performance of the actors but also the spectacular site itself. The opening theme, sung by Duran Duran, also deserves to be heard attentively and appreciated.… Expand

That's not to say it is the worst, I'd say **** is the worst of the Roger Moore Bond movies mainly because it was so careless in the plot. However, despite some good things, this is one of the weaker Roger Moore Bond movies. It looks beautiful though with some fun action, the music is good(with exception of the forgettable theme song), Christopher Walken and Grace Jones make for effective(if not particularly evil) villains and Patrick MacNee fares even better as Bond's right-hand man. However, the story is over-familiar, predictable and contrived, the script lacks the wit and arch of other Bond films, the pacing is very uneven throughout consequently the film lacks that key ingredient-excitement and the direction is lacking. Tanya Roberts is okay with what she has, which isn't much, all it is really is looking sexy, and while Roger Moore is nice and smooth he is truly starting to show his age in this one, no offence. Overall, it is okay but for a Bond film it is rather weak and disappointing. 4/10 Bethany Cox… Expand
