As fragmented and unresolved as the experiences of mother and daughter, Alma bears witness to a situation for which there are no easy answers.
Enthralling, darkly funny, horrifying and hopeful.
The documentary equivalent of a Southern Gothic novel.
It's an exploration by the audience, the filmmakers, and the subjects themselves of a kind you've never quite seen in a documentary before.
In the manner of a southern gothic, they never fail to fascinate.
Begins to seem not so much an examination but an exploitation.
