The movie isn't a disaster, and if you responded to the first one, its memory may carry you over the roughness, the excessive, ugly violence and lack of conviction here. It's as if the movie were saying that lethal violence is acceptable (and fun) as long as the victims - like the victims of guided missiles and high-altitude bombing - remain anonymous. Another 48 Hrs is the sequel to 1982's original 48 Hrs... Director Walter Hill (Red Heat) returns to make the sequel to his classic action comedy hit. However the story is similar to the original but with names like "Iceman" used constantly until the point of annoyance. Kevin Tighe (RoadAnother 48 Hrs is the sequel to 1982's original 48 Hrs... Kevin Tighe (Road House) is rather annoying in this film and not surprised Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) knocked him out to be honest. Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy) is released from prison to help Cates catch the badguys again. A rip off of the original but nowhere near as good even though the violence level is increased dramatically with explosions, blood and more shootouts. Some nudity scenes aswell but more violence, sometimes more of anything is too much or less which makes Another 48 Hrs a bad comedy actioner compared to the original. Not as funny as the original and more violent but violence fails to make it as enjoyable as the original movie. All in all quite disappointing.… Expand

Yet another completely unnecessary sequel. There are some entertaining moments and more shattering of glass than I have ever seen in a movie. Apparently the special effects crew was obsessed with that. Eddie Murphy does so-so, both him and Nick Nolte look like they do not want to be doing Yet another completely unnecessary sequel. Another 48 Hrs. proves one thing about movies: If the first movie isn't good, then the sequel will not be good either! In fact, this movie was a great big jumble of violence, prison dues, ill-fated revenge, and hookers.

Another 48 Hours: 3 out of 10: If you want a synopsis of what was wrong with many movies in the 1980’s (and why the decade has such a bad cinematic rap despite some great films) Another 48 Hours provides a great starting point. (Despite being made in 1990).

The first 48 Hours was a bonafide hit that started and/or influenced the cop buddy film genre for years to come. It was Eddie Murphy’s first film and along with Trading Places made him a star. It combined comedy with intense straight up action and still works today despite having its conventions replicated in a thousand films since 1982.

Another 48 Hours came on the scene at a different time. Eddie Murphy had just had some high profile cinematic bombs and people were anxious for his next great hit. (Little did we know at the time, how great a wait people would have.) Nothing that worked in the first film works here. Eddie Murphy sleepwalks through his role and the film simply is not funny.

The action scenes are not much better. The villains look like a Klingon Biker Gang. There is a muddled story with a reveal at the end that could not make less sense if they tried. The direction by Walter Hill is pedestrian and the jazzy soundtrack practically assaults the audience.

There are a few positives. Nick Nolte seems game throughout much of the film despite the ridiculous script and some of the action set pieces are decent. Over-all the film is a clear miss and an example of why sequels got such a bad name back in the Eighties (Okay early Nineties).

Overall the film is not worth ten minutes of your time let alone another 48 Hours.… Expand

La suite inutile du premier « 48H » avec les deux comparses (cons-parses) qui reprennent du service ici au mauvais gré d’un scénario bricolé par trois « scénaristes » qui n’avaient plus les yeux en face des trous et la cervelle à l’envers… il ne faut donc pas s’étonner si c’est quasimentLa suite inutile du premier « 48H » avec les deux comparses (cons-parses) qui reprennent du service ici au mauvais gré d’un scénario bricolé par trois « scénaristes » qui n’avaient plus les yeux en face des trous et la cervelle à l’envers… il ne faut donc pas s’étonner si c’est quasiment n’importe quoi du début à la fin… sauf au début peut-être mais même là, ma foi, difficile de faire une pire « suite » à cet égard, bourrée d’incohérences et de raccourcis !

On retrouve bien entendu l’ambiance du genre « t’es mon pote toi non plus » ou le style « t’es sympa… connaaard » aussi peu crédible que ça puisse l’être (et ça l’est sans sourciller de toute façon) avec le flic toujours aussi blaireau et le combinard rigolard toujours aussi vulgaire qui ressort de prison… Entre vannes au ras des pâquerettes et le « vivre ensemble racial » et son racisme réciproque tourné en dérision, surtout le Noir à dire vrai qui prêche pour sa communauté et se place en victime à la moindre occasion, on ne peut pas dire que ce soit drôle, y compris au cinquième ou sixième degré (peut-être au septième alors…?).

Malgré sa durée syndicale d’une heure et demi, le film rame souvent malgré une ou deux séquences spéctaculaires… et éventuellement une ou deux fusillades. La réalisation reste bien sûr solide mais l’ensemble laisse vraiment de marbre et ennuie beaucoup plus qu’il ne divertit… Il s’agit en définitive d’un film d’action trop mou et d’une comédie vraiment ratée !… Expand
