You'll certainly find better alien mayhem films than Beyond Skyline, but some creative special effects, interesting fights, and fun, alien brain-sucking will keep you moderately – but solidly – entertained.
There’s scant room for characterization, and when the dialogue isn’t banal or cringe-inducing, it aims for generic smirking-wiseguy quippage. No matter: The performers rise ably to what are primarily physical (rather than “acting”) demands, the energy level is fairly non-stop, and there’s a lot of visual stimulus to keep idle minds further occupied.
Beyond skyline is far better than the first original movie. the first half of the film is amazing 10/10, well directed, entertaining and with really good special effects. the second half of the film is a little bit weaker but not bad. overall it a surprisingly good b movie. Frank Grillo was a perfect choice for this movie. some scenes were weak but overall i promise you its an enternaining movie. i am hoping for a third movie.
Finally I get to give a positive review about something! I don't understand why this movie has such lacklustre reviews. It had a smidge of corn ball but nothing compared to the terminator movies. It wasn't predictable at all, creature features were original and their methods somewhat graphic to good effect .. I absolutely adored the Martial arts fighting brother and sister that we meet halfway through.. absolutely bad ass. Great catch phrases like, everything burns, effing Americans and finally effing Aliens were well delivered and not overdone. The child aspect was not trite, sacrine nor overly cliched like every dang show in media lately. Not once did we have to sit through the, mommy, mommy, mommy repeated at us like Hollywood usually does. The kid was for the most part, silent which was refreshing to say the least because we all know how Hollywood likes using children as sock puppets to preach to the adults in a film to promote whatever schlock their peddling, usually ultra liberal caa caa. Not to mention what Jean Claud Van Dam made a child actress say about the size of his wang for one of his films... ugh! OMIGOD! That was sickening. Yeah there was some basic tropes in it but never once did the film dwell in any of them.. they used the tropes to push the story forward and then abandoned them like the cheap ";:;'s" that they are. Tee hee. I genuinely liked this movie a lot, not Shakespeare but a good, original alien action flick that was totally enjoyable to watch. So I'm intentionally rating this a smidge higher than I normally would because of what I perceive to be unwarranted disapproval. Definitely give this film a shot if you like the genre.. if you don't like the genre then don't bother and why rate it if you don't anyhow.
Beyond Skyline is a boldly bonkers film, and it leans into its genre goofiness with a straight face thanks to Grillo. But more humor would have gone a long way in sustaining interest and entertainment, as it’s not quite funny, and too low-budget to take seriously.
You always cut a little slack for trash cinema that knows it’s trash. So props to the folks who made the green screen monstrosity Beyond Skyline, a creature-feature sequel to the 2010 aliens-invade-LA thriller “Skyline.”
An alien invasion, plenty of blood-gore-dismemberments and brains, a godzilla-size fight and a good dose of kung-fu. What more can you ask ? I just wish they made Star Wars late failure like this. Enjoyable and fun !!
After 7 years of a horrible alien movie that was "Skyline". Its sequel "Beyond" was a good half repaired. The performances were bad, but in terms of special effects and history managed to raise a bit of level, against all the prognosis this movie is enjoyable.
I feel like this could have been so much better. I was expecting more alien invasion on a much larger scale and less of the typical cliche, tender, heartfelt moments of jibber-jabber among the cast. Instead we get a select few fighting off the "bad guys" while getting an overload of CGI crammed down our throats!!
Sure the first one wasn't glorious at all. But at least it was correctly directed and with a decent budget. This follow up is just your typical poor direct to video sequel. Frank Grillo is correct as the lead but except that all is barely unlikable. Special effects are ridiculous, directing is ineffective and the story is just a joke. If you didn't liked the first Skyline you will probably hate the sequel.
I tried to like it, but it just wasn't enjoyable for me. I usually love Sci-Fi films, including B movie lower budget films, but its just so utterly dumb. Pea-shooter guns vs enormous aliens, facepalm alien fistfights, corny dialogue, people saying 'don't look at the light' while looking at and running towards the light. Ultimately a waste of a couple of hours.
