The movie ambles along amiably enough for a while; it’s better if you are a fan of one or more members of the cast.
The plot itself has little momentum, and what should feel dramatic instead feels inert.
Big Stone Gap suffers from some hokey moments, including an ending that’s both implausible and too heavy on the sap.
Long on heart if short on surprises, Big Stone Gap is an easygoing visit to small-town America.
The film is as thin as a picture postcard.
