The visuals themselves are inconsistent, but never boring. The sidekicks seem considerably less painstakingly rendered than the leads. A few of the merchants have the unnatural look and jerky movements of Pirates of the Caribbean animatronics.
Bilal is a grand-scale, fast-paced animated adaptation that is both empowering and inspiring in its call for social justice and equality.

Masterful and engaging. It’s a compelling story with a lot of characters taking center stage. It’s refreshing to see some heroes stand up from another side of the world. I love the style of the movie. I’ll be watching this one with the family one more time.

Though the film is at best confusing in its narrative, Bilal is still a showcase for the capabilities of animated cinema on the Arabian Peninsula.
The animators have figured out horses and falcons and snakes, but human body movements are stiff, awkward, and mechanical.
By reducing teachings to vague platitudes and inspirational truisms, Bilal robs its religious story of any sense of grace, leaving only those components of early Islamic history generally not considered off-limits for visual interpretation—that is, a lot of early medieval warfare and violence.
The dialogue is very clear-cut, devoid of all contractions so that people speak in unnatural ways, though perhaps it makes the conversations clearer, especially to audiences whose native language might not be English. More problematic are the never-ending platitudes, all tied to spreading the message of equality.
The animation feels like the result of the cold calculus of an algorithm rather than a human director with a personal vision.
Never did I think I would see an animated movie of this quality on Bilal Ibn Rabah and his life in Makkah. It was truly a different kind of experience to the Holy Kaaba in its pre Islamic form and how well they used symbolism to depict evil. Seeing Bilal evolve as character was a treat to my eyes. The battle is amazing! I cannot believe how they did it. I definitely wanted to hear Bilal’s singing voice more and another battle would have been awesome. I recommend everyone to go and watch this film.

As a Muslim, I know the story of Bilal and his ordeal to fight back for his right as a human being. However, the film blatantly removes the advent of #Islam and propeller of the uprising which I think is debatable. But, aesthetically speaking, this animated film is really absorbing, particularly this very scene, when the spirit of Bilal awakens from the desert dunes.

This film tells the story of Bilal ibn Rabah, an early companion of Muhammad. He was captured and thrown into slavery, but his fight for freedom propelled him to great things. This may be the most serious animated film I've ever seen. There's no humor or cute sidekicks. The animation is often beautiful, although some of the details were lacking and the movement was sometimes jerky. The big battle is probably the most well-realized action scene ever animated. However, the message is so dominant that the narrative bogs down from its solemn repetition. Some might appreciate this religious history lesson, but viewers expecting a family film will likely be disappointed by this earnest, somber approach.
