"What makes Booksmart land so delightfully is Wilde’s handle on exactly how seriously to take her neurotic heroines. ... Booksmart manages to be inclusive and progressive, without being precious about anything or sacrificing an ounce of humor. It feels at once like a huge moment for the teen movie genre, and also effortless, effortless enough to make one wonder what took so long." ... Read full review

"When you’re a teenager, you project your feelings onto the world, sure that you’re in the right and everyone is out to get you. But in reality, your biggest enemy is usually yourself. Booksmart taps into that truth and makes it memorably relatable in a way that goes far beyond the cap, gown, and college acceptance letters. " ... Read full review

I usually hate comedies but this movie is fresh, original and constantly funny throughout. Olivia Wilde did amazing for her directorial debut, there's an underwater scene that is absolutely beautiful. Whenever I thought this movie was going to do something cliche, it flipped the script and took me by surprise. This movie has a broad appeal and I highly recommend it. Expand

It's funny, and has some ridiculous moments that are truly laughable, along with some subtle jokes here and there. The chemistry between the two leads actresses, Dever and Feldstein, is impeccable and the messy direction is a nice way to go. This is a flimsy, yet original coming-of-age film. Expand

I just absolutely love how alt-right trolls will whine about "triggered SJW snowflakes" non-stop, but then mass review a movie with the lowestI just absolutely love how alt-right trolls will whine about "triggered SJW snowflakes" non-stop, but then mass review a movie with the lowest rating possible because it has the gays in them and they are actually accepted and portrayed as completely equal people in the movie. Just a small thing people: Unless the movie actually portrayed all ~1,000 students of the school and 600 of them were gay, this movie didn't say that, and I quote "a good 60% of the school's population are gay or transgender or a non-binary something or other". It's just that the focus of the movie was on those students. Anyway, let's get to the actual movie review part: Meh. I didn't really like it. The user scores on here are ridiculous and largely by bigotted people whose worldviews are stuck about 100 years in the past, but it's not a great movie. The characters were very over the top and down-right unrealistic (which can work great in a comedy, but just didn't here), way too much of the comedy relied purely on "Oh look, here are these two best friends who are very weird and have very quirky inside jokes, isn't it funny how they weirdly dance to greet each other?" Yeah, no. Not really. The first 2/3 of the movie also felt a bit dragged out, while I thought that the last third was better than the rest of the movie. The acting is alright, but nothing special. Overall this movie is.. well, an acceptable movie. But the plot is weak, unrealistic and relies on to many clichés, even for a comedy movie, the comedic moments are often just not funny and the characters not really relatable as they just don't behave like actual people. Hard to describe, but throughout the entire movie most characters just seem like comic versions of actual people, but way over the top. Didn't really like it, but was almost inclined to give it a 10/10 to counter the wrongful "reviews" on here, but then again: I wouldn't be any better than them if I did that. Expand

Terrible film, why this movie has universal acclaim is beyond me, don't waste your time. Complete garbage, and zero laughs.
