The ensemble of children has a natural, authentic-seeming rapport, and Braff and Union, as the beleaguered but loving parents, have an easy, irresistible chemistry, buzzing with big-hearted charisma every time they share the screen.
Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union are great pillars here, though the film itself isn't consistent enough with its tone, snapping back and forth between sweet sentiment and cheap gags.

“Cheaper” in this case plays like a TV pilot, one that could use a lot more laughs.
This new adaptation’s noteworthy commentary on poignant, timely issues is often eclipsed by predictability, superficial character development and inconsistent pacing.
Cheaper by the Dozen, every time it tries to walk down a thornier path, seems to be guided away by executive fiat to ensure that nothing gets too dicey. There was potential here, but it goes unrealized.
Director Gail Lerner’s Cheaper By The Dozen is aggressively cutesy while trying to address real-world issues such as race and class. Lerner’s version feels busy and laboured, its sitcom treatment straining equally for laughs and pathos.
A joyless exercise in IP mining, Cheaper by the Dozen is all the more depressing for its glimpses of unfulfilled potential.
Cheaper by the Dozen isn't as bad as I thought it would be as it’s mostly harmless, but it also isn't very good. Simply put, it feels like an extended episode of a mediocre sitcom. The child performances are inconsistent and the script is pretty laughable at times (writers in Hollywood really do not understand the youth of today)

Clearly adapted to our current times, and that was to be expected. However it doesn't advance any substantial elements in any way with the exception that this time the lead family is not an extremely white family as in the Steve Martin-led films and the original one, therefore just works over the Disney's safe formula. Coherent in its systematic style, but as predictable and inconsistent as you would expect from a story like this.
