What weakens this sequel is the fact that, unlike the original, it is burdened with a "message."
It has some good moments, though its surreal beginning promises a generation war of apocalyptic dimensions that is never delivered, and the film finally falls into some unconvincing liberal moralising.
It seems the children's grim purpose on earth is to be destroyed in a violent manner, enabling fearful, warlike, and ignorant modern man to learn a valuable lesson about himself.
A dull, pretentious successor to that marvelous little chiller of several seasons ago, "Village of the Damned." What a comedown.
