On paper, this movie should not work, but what we got was an instant classic that is eminently rewatchable and assembled one of the best funny casts ever. The energy levels of the movie are off the charts, keeping it wildly entertaining even in today's short attention span world.

One of my favorite movies of all time. It's not "finely crafted" or "compelling", but it's incredibly fun. Just suspend some disbelief and enjoy the genius of Madeline Kahn and Tim Curry, and it's densely packed with little nuggets of awesome from the entire ensemble cast. Best if you love wordplay and corny gags. LOVE IT

There's a movie here, and there's a gimmick. The gimmick undermines the movie and the gimmick is attached to the wrong part of the movie. Other than that, Clue offers a few big laughs early on followed by a lot of characters running around on a treadmill to nowhere. [13 Dec 1985, p.38]

The murder-mystery board game becomes a frantic, unfunny spoof (1985) under the direction of British TV writer Jonathan Lynn. The script recycles Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians, with six guests invited by a mysterious host to spend the night in a creepy mansion, but instead of parodying the material Lynn simply surrounds it with extraneous pratfalls and wisecracks.

I don't want a remake starring Ryan Reynolds, I want a remake starring Drag Queens. P.S. Really quotable, loved Tim Curry!

Despite what other critics may think, I found the film to be greatly set-up as far as the humour. With that being said, I will admit it could have used a little more subtlety and a little less "cardboard" from the game.

Yeah this has age quite badly. Well maybe if you like the game a lot then you enjoy it more but for me who never played a game watching this it was too corny and cheesy and the plot did not make sense at times either.
