Overall, there’s very little to complain about in Coming 2 America, a worthy sequel that does justice to the original without trying to recreate everything about it. It’s a winning, maximalist musical extravaganza.
Coming 2 America is cute and fun, a lovingly made exercise in nostalgia that delivers several genuine laughs, even if it never achieves the comedic excellence of its predecessor.

This is Eddy Murphy and Arsenio Hall at its best as we know them. Surprised they took so long to make a follow up of the original, because they didn't lose their touch and were back in the zone. It was non stop fun. Didn't take themselves too seriously and that adds to the fun. The entire cast was great, even the extras. It was filmed in the same lighthearted tone as the original. The look and feel had a familiar 80s vibe to it together with the barber shop cameos. Wonderful remake! Took me straight back in time to the good old days!

Murphy is committed, bringing back the same low-key charm he showcased in the original, while also undercutting Akeem by showing how he has come to represent the repressive Zamundan traditions he once rebelled against.
Coming 2 America is both figuratively and literally a nostalgia tour.
The film isn’t funny enough to warrant a recommendation and, although it doesn’t desecrate the less-than-sacred image of the earlier film, it proves itself to be superfluous. However, Coming 2 America will disappoint only those who believed Murphy could do something amazing or hilarious with this dubious property.
If there’s a knock on the first Coming to America, it’s that its two-hour running time often felt a touch padded. But that’s better than the entirely forgettable Coming 2 America, which is pretty much all padding.
Even by the woeful standards of decades-too-late comedy sequels, Coming 2 America is desperate, belabored, and thin.
After reading all the bad reviews on this one I wasn't expecting much. Was actually surprised that it did offer some great laughs. Is it a movie that will have you laughing all the way through no, but it does provide some laughs throughout its run time. No where near as good as the first but still some laughs and of course lots of nostalgia. A good way to spend some time watching it during lockdown.
