The tone throughout Confess, Fletch is refreshingly casual and the dialogue is usually clever. The silliest bits are some of the accents and a twisty plot. Hamm anchors all of it, as funny as he’s teased at being for the last decade or so in supporting roles.
Hamm’s performance here as freelance journalist and investigative whiz Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher is a master class in effortless charm, a comedic turn that never sacrifices the character’s intelligence for a punchline yet steers clear of the smugness and smarminess so prevalent in contemporary comedy.

Very funny. I dearly miss Flynn, but Roy Wood Jr. as Inspector Monroe is fabulous. The story has grown a little more complicated, luckily we caught it in streaming and we had to go back and forth a bit to clear up stuff. But I was laughing out loud. A lot of funny bits that are original to this movie and a LOT of callbacks to Chevy Chase's 1985 Fletch!

John Hamm made his rep in the drama Madmen, but his comic chops have been revealed in several shows. This time, he's the star, playing an investigative journalist who ends up accused of murder. He sets out to find the true culprit, turning him into a sort of real investigator. Hamm is wonderfully amusing with his sly delivery and off-kilter reactions. Writer/director Greg Mottola has penned a witty script and filled the cast with quirky characters (the cooking scene with Annie Mumolo is especially hilarious). The one-liners and extended gags never stop, providing a continuously funny experience that makes it the funniest movie of 2022. NOTE: There's one final quick, subtle audio gag at the end of the credits.

The journey is always more entertaining than the destination, and this one’s a lot of fun.
There’s more than one way to get a job done — whether it’s solving a murder, recovering priceless art or repainting an old van — and Fletch’s strategy is guaranteed to be more original than whatever the next guy would try.
Nobody knocks anything out of the park, but this “Fletch” piles up the singles and doubles, an endless parade of funny lines almost always just thrown away, casually.
Despite Hamm’s evident comedic potential (still best exemplified by his appearances on Saturday Night Live), Confess, Fletch plays like an attempt to perform CPR on DOA dad jokes.
Confess, Fletch, based on Mcdonald's second novel in the series, entirely misjudges the comedic appeal of its predecessor, transforming a setup of one sardonic man at the center of a hardboiled mystery into a barrage of eccentricities and bits that just sit dead on the screen.
Maybe not the five stars Fletch himself would give, but still fun. Ok, maybe the story is silly, but i really liked the characters and the awkward situations. Jon Hamm is effortlessly good.

The pacing is inconsistent in several segments, and the overall comedy is not as clever as it thinks it is, partly because the script blatantly pushes the main character to think he is smarter than everyone else, but by all accounts, Confess, Fletch is an entertaining and funny film, regardless of what doesn't work, because the things that do work make the experience amusing enough.
It's the kind of case where you understand that not everything has to be spectacular or memorable, but just functional and fun at the right time when it's needed.

The only good thing about this movie is Kyle MacLachlan, and his character was poorly written.
If you're looking for a fresh, new Fletch movie, this ain't it.
