Creep is a tiny movie whose uniqueness feels positively seismic. If there's one thing Creep has, it's an abundance of personality, and that cannot be understated.
Wonderfully acted, disturbing, and unsettling, "Creep" is a found-footage horror film done right, and one that will stay with you long after the final segment.
Superior found-footage horror film Creep tellingly loses steam after it stops being a rote but tense game of chicken between a normcore derangoid (he likes hikes, hugs, and pancakes) and his wary victim.
Knowing and funny without straining to be clever, the found-footage-style pic works better than the Duplass Brothers' 2008 Baghead, with which it has some elements in common.
While Creep has the limited scope of DIY filmmaking at its most rudimentary, that contributes to a tone that’s unusually playful and entertaining without coming off as a lark.
as far as found footage films go this is as good as it gets. The name of the movie says it all, this film is creepy. The acting is top notch, it keeps you guessing from beginning to end and its atmosphere will have you completely absorbed.
Really? All these positive reviews? We're really lowering our standards these days, aren't we? I mean, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The first 30 minutes were a drag. Then at around 45 minutes, we got some mediocre suspense, but by that point, we know the guy's a psycho, so there's really no surprises... other than the corny jump scares .... which were annoying!
I am genuinely shocked at the positive response this movie is getting, I had not heard of the movie prior to watching it tonight, and I was expecting a negative flow of reviews but very surprising that this is not the case. For those people who did enjoy it, then absolutely more power to you, I am very happy you enjoyed this movie.
So the praise I am seeing is that it is "original" or "unpredictable" which is being used quite a lot, originality doesn't necessarily mean it is good though.. So we follow a guy named Aaron who takes a job to film a person for a day for a reasonable amount, he doesn't know anything about the person nor what exactly he will be filming, the person he does meet is a strange character named Josef, warning signs are there rather early on but as the movie goes on, its gets more and more obvious there is something up with Jozef... though I'd say the obvious signs to run away were there within a minute of meeting the guy but that is just me.
If you are a fan of horror, then you will be familiar with the feeling of frustration when a character goes into a dark attic after hearing some sketchy noises which typically prompts you to yell at your screen - "Don't go in there!". Well our boy Aaron is now the perfect example of these types of people. A lot of his actions are downright strange in itself, to the point I could not take this movie seriously in the slightest. No matter what Josef says, no matter how awkward or strange his request might be, it is usually met with an "Okay" from Aaron, to the point where I feel you can create a drinking game for every time Aaron says it. Without going into spoilers, I legitimately laughed at the ending and it perfectly summed up my view on our main character, he is a shell of a person with very little sense for us to peek through the eyes of (or lens as it were).
There isn't much I can say about Josef, his character comes off as the title makes clear - he is a creep.
Jump scares are thrown all about this movie and I have nothing against them but some are obviously just placed there to get this "horror" genre vibe across. It is something that a lot of these found footage type movies are plagued with, lacking very little in material, long drawn out scenes for no reason and spotty acting due to a lot of it being improvised, it doesn't feel very genuine.
I will just say that I didn't have a terrible time with the movie, I actually found some enjoyment in it because of how silly it was but is it a good movie? No, there are so many other movies like this out there and majority of them do the same thing, yes the outcome may not go where you expect it to, but that is because you will watch this and predict the outcome based on common sense that the main character should also possess, however this is not the case. Originality and unpredictability does not necessarily mean a good movie. I am still shocked that I am in the minority with my views on this film, but again this is my opinion and do feel free to give it a watch if it interests you, its is only 1 hour and 17 minutes so pretty easy to set time aside for it if you got thing else to watch.
'Horror' ?? More like horrific waste of 1 hour and 17 minutes of time I could have been watching something else, anything really would have been better. The 'jump scares' were just annoying, and the sole purpose of movie seemed to be a test of endurance of crap film making. How did this movie get on any list of Top / Best HORROR? Would not recommend to any one, just no.
