Death Ship unfortunately turned out to be about as frightening as "The Love Boat." No -- less. Except for one grisly, chilling scene too horrible to describe, this one was an unintentionally funny stroll. And pity the poor actors -- George Kennedy, Richard Crenna, Nick Mancuso, Sally Ann Howes; it's the TV-jeebies. Strictly second-string city. [9 June 1980, p.B1]

The movie degenerates from the merely farcical to the appallingly tasteless...As the end draws mercifully near, one character proclaims: "This ship needs blood to survive." A film needs more than that. [22 May 1980]

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I remember seeing this at a drive in. I miss those. Anyways the movie itself was actually interesting. The ship itself was very creepy and quite atmospheric. George Kennedy was good as the Captain of the cruise ship. Richard Crenna was also good in his role. About the only gripe I have with the movie is the death scene of Victoria Burgoyne. She gets in the shower and starts freaking out when the water turns to blood. And... she dies. From what? Nothing ever touched her. One of the lamest death scenes I've seen.

Aside from that it's a good movie overall. I wonder why those so called critics gave it such a negative score.… Expand
