Everything in Easter Sunday is played for laughs… crazy family, wacky mob thriller, and lots of cameos. It’s all good, light fun. See it because you’re a fan of Jo Koy or just to get to know a little more about your Filipino brothers and sisters.
Despite its broad comedy, typical of “Dukes of Hazzard” director Jay Chandrasekhar, the film has some tender and wise moments. And even if you don’t get all the ethnic jokes, there’s plenty of family drama that anybody will recognize, no matter their background.

Easily one of the worst films I've ever had to sit through. Awful script, terrible acting, and a pace that is like a jarring action film. Very hard to watch. Also I think it's supposed to be a comedy but it has yet to be seen. The fact that most of the characters are Asian is cool I guess, something different, but that's literally all the movie has. Throw in bad CGI which is a standard in most modern movies, and you have a forgettable cocktail of movie mess that's just better left unwatched. It's typical for light, upbeat, comedies such as this to lean heavily on music but how heavily this one relies on said music is a telltale sign of the lack of substance that should be here. One point for the actress playing Jo's mom though. She has a point of dialogue toward the end of the film that almost makes this film seem full of living people.

Food, family, a big karaoke scene … and a spotlight on an immigrant community underrepresented in Hollywood. There are worse ways to spend 96 minutes.
The low-hanging-fruit laughs and occasional flashes of charm make Easter Sunday a perfectly watchable if generally underwhelming comedy. But hey, maybe this sitcom pilot will be picked up after all, with or without the funny accent.
Easter Sunday starts off well enough before getting off track completely, too preoccupied with aspects of the story that aren't good and don’t matter, sacrificing its characters and their relationships with each other as a result.
Hints of Koy’s stage charm burst through occasionally in Easter Sunday — mostly because he’s also playing a comedian trying to hit the big time, so stand-up-like bits are built in (or crammed in) — but as directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (“Super Troopers”), who also has a small role as an agent, this feature opportunity is a woefully run-of-the-mill, laugh-challenged attempt to translate Koy’s comedy to the big screen.
Every joke in Easter Sunday lands with a thud, every emotional beat falls flat. It has the sense of humor of a bad TikTok video, and the emotional resonance of that TikTok commercial playing right now where wide-eyed people declare, "I learned it from TikTok!" Visually, it looks like a network TV reject or that one Netflix movie that you put on in the background while doing laundry.
