Zhao keeps these far-reaching propositions grounded through the laser-like focus of her vision and the precision of the images dreamed up by her and veteran MCU lensman Ben Davis. It’s a shame Eternals devolves into such a run-of-the-mill superhero movie, given it features some groundbreaking and/or relatively unusual elements, including a deaf character, an openly gay character and an actual lovemaking scene between two otherworldly entities (although it’s tamer than what you’d see in a 1950s romance). Even if Zhao and her co-screenwriters were more adept at establishing the family-style togetherness of the Eternals, the emotional continuity is shattered by the incessant time tripping and globe hopping. In some senses, Zhao bucks the Marvel formula, but goes so far off-piste, everything that’s enjoyable about Marvel—the breezy snap, crackle, and pop of escapist watchable entertainment—go out the window in favor of something far more muddled. Eternos is a film that totally breaks the homogeneity of a universe and breaks with the stereotype that every superhero movie should be the same.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m not sure why this movie has such a low critic score but I’m pretty sure fans of both Marvel comics and the MCU will love it. Yes, it’s a slight deviation from Marvel movies of recent years but it was a good watch with lots of twists and expands the MCU further. A bold step by Marvel and director Chloe Zhao. The end credits was even better with the teasers of earth-dwelling heroes (Black Knight and Blade) and space-dwelling characters (Starfox and Pip).… Expand

Eternals was an ok movie. The story is actually pretty good. There are some holes that they try to explain. It's a bit hard to swallow in terms of logic. Also, I don't think that the flashback works well in this movie. Maybe that's because they are often longer then the present sequencesEternals was an ok movie. The story is actually pretty good. Maybe that's because they are often longer then the present sequences between them. Putting them all in sequence could have been interesting and solidified the story. The acting was very uneven. The main actress lack experience and emotional range for that movie. It was vividly apparent in contrast to some better actors. She was miscast or badly directed. It did get better at the end of the movie. Hard to understand when the secondary actors were decent enough. The FX were really good in my book and especially amazing actions scenes. I like the humour. The music was fair. I give it 65%. It was a good movie but with a wrong structure, and average actor direction.… Expand

So damn bad. Endless stringing together of boring flashbacks. Fell asleep 3 times during it (no joke).

Way too many underdeveloped characters. No sense of urgency in what is supposed to be a high stakes movie. The pace is slow and dull, the characters are just going from place to place to recruit each eternal. One of the eternals does not even show up in the third act.
