Director David Dobkin doesn’t land every single beat, but he taps into that well of carefree exultation so potently that the movie’s stumbles hardly register.
It’s often hard to see comedies for what they are, or what they might be, on first viewing. But “Eurovision” is that rare film that strikes the right chord from the start. And, weirdly, it might even spark some interest in the actual show.

What a great film! It's pure Eurovison trash comedy and I loved every moment!

The sincerity that Eurovision fans might fall for is exactly what stops the comedy from taking off.
In the Ferrell canon, “Eurovision Song Contest” is a workmanlike, “Blades of Glory”-level effort, never as funny as you want it to be no matter how hard it tries or how silly its actors look.
Fire Saga manages glimmers of fun through its laborious two-hour runtime when it sits the hell down and plays some fun Eurovision-y songs, but there are too many false notes in between to justify trucking through the tedium to find them. Just hit up the soundtrack when it comes out and bop along to some goofy songs.
In Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, Ferrell's typical schtick is on full display, but wears incredibly thin in this overlong comedy.
Sending up the Eurovision Song Contest is like flattening Salisbury Plain: one quick look at the thing should be enough to reassure you that the job took care of itself long ago. Nevertheless, Will Ferrell has decided to give it a shot, and the result is this pulverisingly unfunny and vacuous two-hour gauntlet run of non-tertainment.
This is the fun movie you need for your Corona-time watching. Ignore the hate from the critics and relax and enjoy. No true bad guys in this film or mean callousness. It’s just a good little story that will pep you up. All the songs are great, and you’ll be asking to hear “Ja Ja Ding Dong” again. I know I still do. Cheers!

Enjoyable rom-com. Has even higher value for actual Eurovision watchers. Pure Hollywood entertainment. There’re lovable sweetheart lines “There you are…Here I am…” Some out of place moments like Demi Lovato's final ghost appearance, but all is forgiven with Europop, a sing along, Pierce Brosnan faking an European accent, reference to BDE, reference to gender fluidity, silly Jaja Ding Dong pub song, and more.

The songs are good and so is Rachel McAdams but the humor isn't good and the other performances aren't great.

I have never cared for Eurovision to begin with.
Hardly an issue to watch this film but still, facing that music was a problem and I like pop music but when it has this level of manufacturing, I can't stand it.
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is pretty much the joyless parody I was expecting. And no, there's no surprises along the way to make it more functional or funny for that matter.
If you watch the trailer, which it basically tells you the whole damn story, you will get no rewards watching the whole thing. Unless of course, this is your kind of gig.
Will Ferrell shows once again he's not funny anymore and his career since Anchorman 2 has taken a turn for the worse. And that was 7 years ago.
Rachel McAdams was in for the check but at least she tries to make the thing more believable.
She knows it's a foolish parody but her performance feels way more organic than Ferrell's who's always trying too hard to force the laughs.
And that's pretty much the biggest flaw of this poor attempt. It's just not funny.
I can see that the people involved had fun doing it, but I think they forgot they had an audience that they also had to amuse.
The Netflix movie of the weekend as a novelty for its subscribers. They will get rid of it as soon as the finish it. And that's if they actually finish it.
