Faults is a strangely funny, often eerie accomplishment, and it’s a testament to why people like us tend to call first features like this “promising.”
Stearns saddles himself with a touch more plot than he needs, and some of the film’s late-game twists are more satisfying than others, but Faults never loses sight of the one thing Ansel can’t see: Free will may come cheap, but most people still can’t afford it.

A taut, deeply engrossing psychodrama about motivation, manipulation, and control. Exceptionally great dialogue and must-see for anyone fascinated by influence. This film is like Dangerous Liaisons shot in a single motel room by Squeaky Fromme. I am automatically interested in whatever this director does from here on out.

เป็นหนังแนวจิตวิทยาชิ้นดีเลย ความดีงามคือเป็นผลงานการแสดงอีกเรื่องของเจ๊เมรี่ที่ทำได้ดีมากและหนังให้อารม ลึกลับ ชวนน่าสงสัยตลอดส่วนตัวพระเอก ก็เล่นดีไม่แพ้กัน ส่งอารมกับบทได้ดีมาก(สงสารพระเอกโครตตกอับอ่ะ 555) ตอนท้าย พืคมาก แต่ไม่หนักหน่วงมาก แต่ก็พาให้คนดูอีังอยู่เหมือนกัน
ข้อเสียคือ หนังอาจจะเดินเรื่องนึ่งๆๆเงียบๆบ้าง อาจน่าเบื่อบางช่วงแต่ไม่มาก
ใครที่ชอบหนังแนวจิตวิทยา ที่ไม่หนักหน่วงมาก เล่นอารมคนดู หักมุม ห้ามพลาดโดยเฉพาะใครเป็นแฟนๆของเจ๊เมรี่ ยิ่งห้ามพลาดเลย

Faults is a richly-textured movie that concerns the weird space between thinking you know what you're doing, and actually knowing what you're doing.
The film obliquely addresses its narrative mysteries through the conversational cracks of two people in enforced proximity.
Stearns directs with a slow-burning intensity that becomes more unsettling the deeper Ansel goes into his task, and the more it becomes apparent he doesn’t have an easy way out.
The wan drama is enlivened by bursts of black comedy, some bits more effective than others, and though it ultimately disappoints, there's promise in the understated creepiness of Riley Stearns' debut feature.
Mind control is a topic that should be fascinating, but it’s utterly forgettable in this disappointing, low-budget indie.
An auspicious debut by Riley Stearns. The dialogue, setting, camera shots. All help to form the disturbed feeling the film intends to protrude. Winstead and Leland Orser, an accomplished character actor are a brilliant duo. The themes of control and free in that what people can become when manipulated is certainly frightening. But the development is somewhat slower than I'd like, given it's an eighty nine minute film. But that's just my personal opinion. I still think it's fantastic for a debut and a fantastic indie film.

A film that starts primarily as a dark comedy turns into an intriguing drama about cult mind manipulation. The acting is all great and I thought the screenplay was solid. The end was interesting twist and for the most part I went with it. B+

What we're, won't be the same at the end of the level.
The film had more hidden facts than one gets in his casual viewing. If you were really focused, you would start to dig for some answers. The opening of the film was very smooth in a comedic sense. But that's not how the entire film going to be. When the story's purpose begins to roll, with an unexpected event the narration moves to a single location for almost the rest of the film with the limited cast. So it is where our guessing game commence.
I must agree the writing was a bit cleverer than I projected. The film characters were not so complicated, but towards the end it looked like unavoidably becomes that way. At first, it promises to be a good entertainer and then turns to be smarter with the story development, but in a low key. The film does not say anything about its timeline, but seems it was in the 70s that inspired by the real deprogramming.
I did not get the last 10-15 minutes of the film, but you know by guessing and visiting various film discussion forums on the net about what others thought about it gave more perspectives. But we still won't reach anywhere near what the writer intended to tell all of us. Compared to the opening, the end was totally a different contrast. In fact feels turned to be another genre and theme. So you would end watching it with the possibilities of like this and that. That means not all the viewers end up happy for what they just saw. Definitely it is for a certain kind of people, including for those has no intention of any expectations from the film.
