Stevens slowly and subtly unpacks that heady, provocative conceit with care and in a way that makes his directorial debut feel like the arrival of a major new talent.
Girl On The Third Floor has enough carnage and bloodshed to satisfy all gorehounds. Director Travis Stevens gets terrific performances from an excellent cast, and the atmosphere is consistently foreboding.

This is the typical horror movie recipe made with low budget and unknown actors. I do not think it is worth remembering but it works without presumption although it likes to take its time; what is certain is that it will not satisfy everyone. Of course: if you are going to buy a house, check it down to the last centimeter.

Gore and supernatural comeuppances ensue in a haunted-house flick that mostly eschews jump scares for more satisfying psychological and erotic twists.
The second half’s a letdown — the audience knows where the movie’s going, and gets there before the movie does. Nonetheless it bodes nicely for longtime horror producer Travis Stevens, here making his feature debut behind the camera.
What’s ultimately less impressive is Stevens’ script, which to varying degrees draws on the templates of “The Amityville Horror,” “The Shining,” “Eyes Wide Shut” and other conspicuous predecessors, but lacks the original fillip or three that might have turned an enjoyable exercise into something really first rate.
The film is loud and obvious about declaring its themes, as if to distract from their ultimate shallowness.

While I did not enjoy C.M. Punk as the main character, this mixture of haunted house and body horror was a rewarding experience and I didn't really anticipate that.
Its course isn't always the most appropriate but its tone contributes a lot to maintain the interest, especially because the film does not favor jump scares - Although it could've done it - and achieves an atmosphere more inclined towards psychological horror because after all the haunted house is actually the key element of the plot.
The ending didn't leave me satisfied, but the trip despite the bumps was entertaining. And between so much horror and of such poor quality, this is an option that actually stands out.

CM Punk's acting is so wooden that his screen presence increases 1000% when you pause the movie.
That said, if you can make it through the first half of the movie which I've disdainfully dubbed "This Old House with Phil Brooks," there are a few scenes that try to entertain, and the third act tries to stick the landing in an interesting way. The operative word here is try. It's all just so aggressively passable... but at least the bogeywoman looked okay.

I love horror movies, can't get enough of them. Since my state recently put in a shelter order due to Covid-19, I've been simply binge watching a ton of horror movies on streaming sites like NetFlix, Hulu and Shudder. The Girl on the Third Floor is a intresting concept, it's a slow burner, cinematography is excellent and the special effects are good. It's pretty much a body horror film. Unfortunately these only take the film so far. At some point I just started to get bored with the film, the over all story just feels like it drags on and on. It doesn't help that there are a few scenes that last far too long and wear out their welcome quickly.
The ending ends up also completely ruining the film. Which is arguably one of the most important points of a film, especially horror films. Intrigue and special effects only take a film so far, the story has to drive it home and this film completely missed the mark.
