This is Young Adult horror at its finest.
The film thrives within a dream-logic vibe, especially in Olivares’ cinematography, with its heavy emphasis on symmetrical framing, stark contast and lush use of yellows and blues, evoking subliminal terror.

This movie is a **** atmosphere and the ambience of the film are amazing,the camerawork is truly amazing,its mysterious and pretty **** story and the pacing is spot **** in all,i loved this!!!

If one of the boundaries being tested in this film is viewers’ patience, the reward for—to use a refrain repeated throughout the film—“trusting the darkness” is well worth the commitment.
Gretel & Hansel updates a classic fairy tale with impressive results. It’s a gorgeous and moody film that trusts the intelligence of its audience.
Gretel & Hansel is a full course meal when it comes to cinematography and production design, but the sleepy, hollow narrative pacing is just too stogy to overcome.
Gretel & Hansel is as visually arresting as it is tedious, a 90-minute movie that really should have been a 3-minute music video for Marilyn Manson or Ozzy Osbourne. It’s in the horror genre only loosely. It’s more eerie, if that’s a genre. Actually, it’s like dread for 90 minutes. It’s dreadful.
If you are passionate about cinematic experiences that present a one-of-a-kind vision, where every scene is delicately crafted to poetic beauty, then skipping Gretel & Hansel would be a grievous mistake.

I don't know if to blame it on myself but the trailer is misleading. Some scenes I don't even remember being in the film. There are things they do get right though. The lighting and visual depictions are very mesmerizing (especially for a cut trailer). But when you piece all these together and leave a massive void between each with nothing particularly interesting to help advance the plot, it leaves for a very lackluster film. Not enough new content to bring back another retelling of a story such as this.
