"Halloween Kills suffers from being the second chapter in a trilogy, but it still delivers gory fun, fantastic performances, and an electrifying score from John Carpenter. There are enough callbacks to the original film to satisfy Carpenter fans while also expanding the mythology around Michael Myers and the town of Haddonfield in meaningful ways." ... Read full review

"As with so many middle parts of proposed trilogies, Halloween Kills feels designed to get you from Point A to a future Point C. It forgets, however, that a middle chapter still has to work on its own, and that stranding fans, completists, casual moviegoers, etc. in a weak-link entry runs the risk of permanently turning people off of the whole endeavor." ... "Rarely will you see a more soul-numbingly empty product of this tragic operation than Halloween Kills, a film that so completely sucks the vitality out of John Carpenter’s and Debra Hill’s original vision that one would be tempted to call it a desecration if that didn’t make it sound like more fun than it actually is." ... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The firemen tending to the fire at the end of the last film, free Michael, who goes back to Haddonfield to kill more people, while Tommy who was the young boy in the original film, raises a mob to make "evil die tonight" but they're not very good at making that happen and Michael kills them all. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is a pent-up fever dream. Halloween (2018) was a very simply executed slasher, but the story held it up and kept it interesting. It was more grounded in reality (except for a few moments, Michael Myers kicking a car in half comes to mind.) then this new film. This movie clearly just wanted to fix one major criticism with Halloween (2018) which was it didn't show much of the killing. This movie fixes that at least and nothing else. But where Halloween kills drops the ball for me, is because Michael just keeps killing and killing and the story has zero pacing. It's just, Michael kills this person, then move onto the next. And for some reason they brought back the kids from the original movie as "survivors" but he ends up killing them at the end of the movie, so I don't understand the point of bringing them back in the first place.

Now even though this movie makes no sense, it is enjoyable in the sense to see the updated technology. I mean you'll get plenty enjoyment out of this movie if you just want to see Michael killing people. However, for the rest of us, the story is very lackluster and has no pacing whatsoever. The director is also falling back on the older Halloween movies and timeline, by making Michael pretty much immortal. Which makes absolutely no sense, because it pulls out all the stakes because the characters might as well just give up because they can never beat Michael. And it seems that they just keep killing off characters but have no idea how to do it properly. So, in summary, it is a truly baffling experience. The story took a nosedive compared to the other film that just came out three years before hand. Try not to get invested in any of the characters, because they will be used as an excused to just be killed off. The only enjoyment out of this film you will get, is seeing Michael killing people with the updated technology. But other than that, the movie is a big MEH and doesn't end properly.
