A sharp dramedy focusing on the romantic stirrings of a lonely office worker, played with considerable wit and verve by the 69-year-old Sally Field.
A running joke about hipster clichés is tiresome, and the movie's plot threads are uneven. But watching Field work her magic is so delightful.

What a cute and funny movie. Sally Field played her role perfectly. I think it would be cool to live on Staten Island. Watched this on Amazon Prime Instant.

I'm not as crazy about this movie as my score indicates but I cannot get the bar thingy to register my actual score which would be a 9. Very much liked the movie. Struck a careful balance between humor and pathos for the main character. But what I really liked was the tremendous gulf the film portrays between the generations as a result of current times. I really felt like "that's it, that's the way things are" gave me a great sense of the times we live in.

Hello, My Name Is Doris is at times self-consciously quirky and precious and implausible — and Sally Field is so good in it that those complaints seem pointless.
Field, carrying the movie on her shoulders and handing it to us for our approval, makes us root for wistful Doris. Single-handedly, she makes the movie work. I didn’t always believe Doris’ behavior, but I knew I wanted to see her smile again.
Field can't make it all make sense, but she does make it diverting, even pleasurable.
Hello, My Name Is Doris is a weirdly off-plumb little movie, one that manages to be condescending and compassionate, knowing and blinkered, reassuring and unsettling all at the same time
Field next tries to touch our hearts with her pitifulness. Stay away, crazy woman! At times she seems about to turn into Glenn Close in “Fatal Attraction.”
My friend and I both enjoyed "Hello, My Name Is Doris" tremendously. This movie is both heartfelt and humorous, and the performances are top-notch across the board. I hope director/screenwriter Michael Showalter keeps making good independent movies like this one and his other hit "Wet Hot American Summer." Sally Field and Max Greenfield are both marvelous in the lead roles. We were also both impressed by the performances of Wendi McLendon-Covey (who was so good in "Reno 911", as well as "Bridesmaids" and "The Goldbergs") and the always wonderful Tyne Daly. Good cast, good script, good little movie.

The Unbearable Tension between Awful and Good.
I think Hello, My Name, etc. is rated R because it's a comedy that might offend someone. Maybe even you, dear Reader. Anyway, Sally Field is ineffably great, in material that is just ... not great, definitely not great, but out there. Very self-aware, a hipster look at hipsters. It screams NEW YORK and if you hate NY you'll hate this movie. I love the energy and willingness to take risks. Which is basically what it's all about. Sharp sick and fun.

A rather unremarkable premise and approach for a film is almost unquestionably saved by a committed lead performance from Sally Field. "Hello, My Name Is Doris" may not contain a whole lot of new -- or funny for that matter -- but with Field at the forefront of this, it's almost impossible not to empathize. Even when the titular protagonist makes some rather questionable decisions, the desperate, yet winsome charm of Field's approach is what makes this ultimately watchable in the end. Just a notch or two above watchable, that is.

Hello, My Names is Doris turned out to be a pleasant surprise, although it has certain mistakes in its tone and in the narrative sequence and some other inconsistencies in the character, the film is a good comedy with dramatic overtones.
The film tells the story of a spinster woman who develops an attraction to a fellow worker who is way younger than her. This sort of story could be told in various ways, especially more dramatically, but its star, Sally Fiels delivers a well balanced performance combining comedy with empathy making a nice character for the audience and even for some a relatable one.
Frankly the rest of the cast does not make a real impression but at least Max Greenfield does a good job as John, the romantic interest of Doris, although some points of his performance made me remember his character in New Girl, he achieves a good balance giving mixed signals for Doris, though one as a viewer can also think differently about that.
But in the end the film belongs to Sally Field who accepts his age for this role without any sort of complex and delivers a simple but neat and well built performance which achieves the sympathy of the audience, making you believe that there might be some kind of hope for her down the road.

This movie benefits from very good acting, especially from Sally Fields. The comedy is spot on and has a very quirky, independent feel to it. Some of the things in here would almost never happen on a big budget film. The massage about living life to the fullest and having fun are done in a lighthearted manner. However what brings down this indie goodness is a story that's a complete mess. Instead of focusing on the issues of depression, hording, and loneliness that Doris suffers from; the film focuses almost entirely on the romance between her and a substantially younger co- worker. While this would have been a nice comedic subplot, instead its the main plot that makes the ending predictable and the drama sub-par. In addition, the tone changes dramatically without warning and the editing is choppy. Despite this, the fine acting and unique overall indie feel makes Hello, My Name is Doris a quite lovable mess of a movie.
