Thoroughly entertaining Home Movie carries on a grand tradition of American documentary -- seeking out the eccentrics and contrarians among us.
Smith's film is a celebration of quirkiness, eccentricity, and certain individuals' tendency to let it all hang out, and damn the consequences.
Smith profiles five extraordinary American homes, and because the owners seem fully aware of the uses and abuses of fame, it's a pleasure to enjoy their eccentricities.
Suffice it to say that Chris Smith's Home Movie is the most bananas episode of ''Cribs'' ever. The film is Smith's ballad of the wacky homeowner.
At 60 minutes, the film never stops feeling like a guided tour, while we're wishing it was a sleepover.
Slight and whimsical.
There's a lot of bad hair and incoherent, drug-addled remarks, but inside a minute we get the joke, and it isn't much.
