The generally faithful script is by Anne Rice herself, the director is "The Crying Game"'s Neil Jordan, and both seem true to themselves and as true as they can be to artistic and visceral expectations. [11Nov1994 Pg. 01.D]
A horror drama with a dream cast from the early 90's. One of my favorites that I always enjoy watching. The film impresses with its haunting elegance and narrative density. Particularly worth mentioning is the incredible acting performance of the two main protagonists Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. For Brad Britt it was the breakthrough in Hollywood, and for Tom Cruise another milestone in his creative art. Also a real Zeitgeist film of the 90s. A tribute to youth. Neil Jordan delivered a timeless masterpiece here, unmatched, full of expressiveness and depth. You can watch the film over and over again and each time you discover new aspects of the film adaptation of the book by Anne Rice, who was initially unhappy with the cast. But after all these years, it was the right decision to cast the lead roles like that. Top casting, top direction, a haunting soundtrack that puts the stamp on the work, fantastic cinematography and a great script with top-notch actors. This is cinematic art in its highest form, this is filmmaking in its essence. AWESOME! BRAVO! BRAVO BRAVO!
I love ️️️ this movie! One of my all time favorites. There are excellent, well known actors in it who are great at their jobs! As well as being some of my favorite actors too. I miss vampire movies like this, and wish they made more like this today than they do.
The director, Neil Jordan, and his cinematographer, the great Philippe Rousselot, have given the movie an extraordinary seductive look, but Rice (who wrote the screenplay) doesn't provide enough narrative to keep the audience satisfied.
Literal-minded to the last, I felt nothing but pity for Tom Cruise, fanged, wigged and costumed, trying hard with his considerable talent to make his sanguinary appetite real. [12Dec1994 Pg. 24]
Interview with the Vampire a rare example of adult cinema about vampires. Excellent cast, interesting initial message. The first 20 minutes it seems that before you the excellent thriller. And then everything becomes sad and boring. Also you watch the movie on inertia. And only the character of Antonio Banderas forces to look through the movie. And end of the movie in general turns everything into the comedy. Missed I potentsionat the movie disappoints.
I've read all the books and I liked the movie from the 90's and was looking forward to this series. I should have known better. This is another example of people who lack creativity demolishing the work of their betters. They made numerous changes to the source material because of hubris. The changes in no way enhanced the story and often detract from it. I remember back in the 90's when I heard Tom Cruise was cast as Lestat and I laughed. At the time I knew Cruise from Risky Business and Top Gun and could not see him pulling off Lestat. But I thought he did a decent job with the character. Not so with this version. This Lestat is flat and uninteresting. In the 90's version Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas and a young Kirsten Dunst were also great. I don't like anyone from this version. This series is a waste of resources. It's just yuck.
Overblown, rushed and boring. This vampire classic misses it's mark for me,multiple times. Brad & cruise are unconvincing . Perhaps their worst performance.
