Awesome movie love the fights Donnie Yen knows the Lee family and is the best to portray the late IP it's because of this this movie is awesome

[Ip Man] is the calm at the center of a storm of kung-fu combat sequences, and Yen plays him with grace and serenity.
This time, celebrated action director Yuen Wo-ping, taking over from Sammo Hung, ensures the film’s fight sequences remain the film’s primary focus, although the overall tone is smaller and quieter, reflecting both the personal drama Ip Man encounters and Donnie Yen’s own encroaching retirement from kung-fu cinema.
For all its grand promises, Ip Man 3 teeters uneasily among B-movie clichés.
Returning director Wilson Yip commits to this tone too late, getting lost in tangential conflict and stunt casting — in this corner, Mike Tyson! — at the expense of the drama and even the action.
Donnie Yen's performance is so good that it's a shame Wilson Yip's films have never strived to be more than briskly entertaining hagiography.
Going into this movie, I was expecting it to be slightly better than Ip Man 2. I never thought it would top the original Ip Man, but that is exactly what happened. Ip Man 3 ranks up there with the best martial arts movies of all time and I really believe this will be seen as a classic in the years to come. Where to start? If I would choose one reason why I love this film (other than the incredible action scenes), is that it has heart. The film is actually about something meaningful and the importance of family above all else. I was seriously tearing up during a few scenes and anyone who is a father, husband or has close family will feel the emotion that was on display here. It really caught me off guard as I thought this would be just another typical action movie. What can I say about the fighting? Absolutely incredible, the elevator fight scene and the final fight will be seen as two of the best martial arts sequences ever put on film. If you thought The Raid: Redemption fight scenes were good, these fight scenes top them in every respect. And I love that the Mike Tyson fight is really just a side event fight and not the main event which any other lazy director would have done. I plan to watch this film with my kids because of the great moral lessons taught in this film.

Voici la fin des aventures d'IP Man, l'homme qui entraîna le petit Dragon... enfin la fin ?... du moins on l'espère... au moins pour son bien, le bien de la "légende" du Wing Chun, cette variété de Kung Fu d'une étonnante sobriété et toujours d'une incroyable efficacité apparemment !
Car Mike Tyson sur l'affiche... et dans le film (?)... on dirait une mauvaise blague et ça l'est, d'assez courte durée heureusement, mais quel gâchis assez ridicule pour appâter le badaud ignare de la beauté de l'art martial dont la boxe est un avatar foireux d'enfoirnazes abrutis... qui ne saurait donc être mêlée à la grâce du Kung Fu et ses variantes !
Nonobstant cet écart regrettable, Donnie Yen reprend son rôle de sage enseignant ici sur le retour avec toujours le regard plein d'humilité qui caractérise le personnage. C'est aussi l'occasion de tirer encore un peu plus sur la corde des violons avec une guimauve maladroite et longuette.
Heureusement (quand même !) les combats sont encore présents et toujours bien mis en scène et filmés correctement. Très peu ou quasiment pas de câbles, une caméra plutôt fluide, des plans raisonnables, que demande le peuple ? d'apprécier les chorégraphies pardi ! et à cet égard, ce troisième IP Man convainc encore. Les meubles sont saufs, on a eu chaud.

Not exactly as I wanted it to be but it still works anyways. It can live up a few moments of kung fu, but the rest of us will have to watch it again to understand the plot of Ip Man 3.

After many years, Donny Yen finally comes back to the role that made him a big name in my book at least and it's pretty much a failure. The movie almost feels like 2 smaller movies put together with a small bridge combining the two. Mike Tyson makes an appearance as a bad guy in the film and his fight scene is certainly the highlight of the film. However, where it was placed in the movie and the "outcome" feels extremely dull. All the build up to that fight made it disappointing at how it ended. I have to also mention the fact that, while everyone else in the movie has clearly aged, Yen's Ip Man clearly has not, even though he should be about 60 years old in his life during the timeframe of the movie. It definitely stands out. In the end, Yen should have taken his own advice and not played Ip Man again. The first two movies are some of my favorite Kung Fu movies of all time. This one just felt like a total waste of time.
